Weekly Blend Interviews Ewan McGregor
from CinemaBlend.com - Weekly Blend Audio Show July 17, 2008
In 2004 Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman made a round-the-globe trip from London to New York on their motorcycles. The trip was documented and became the miniseries The Long Way Round. Last year, the two went on a second trip that took them through Africa which has been turned into The Long Way Down. The documentary will air in a miniseries format next month, but first Fathom Events is bringing a special director’s cut of the trip to theaters for a one-night event. We got the chance to talk to Ewan McGregor (the Star Wars prequels, Big Fish) and producer David Alexanian about The Long Way Down - the goal behind trips like these, the trials and tribulations they faced, and moments you can’t capture on film.

TVAMD2: The Crapisode!
from TV Ate My Dinner June 29, 2008
This episode's a crap shoot, but you should be used to that. Lacking a central topic, the boys BS about Dollhouse, the upcoming Joss Whedon project starring Eliza Dushku, some belated praise for the Iron Man movie with speculation about where the Avengers movie could be going. Plus a hard look at what's going wrong with the new Justice League movie. We also bring you a new Movie From the Vault (House 2 tackled Crystal Skulls way before Indiana Jones) and the latest Johnny Drama (all hail the reigning Re-Animator, Jeffrey Combs!) All this and the long-awaited follow-up on whether the junxploitation poster project Teeth is worth the trip. Should be something for everybody in this one.

Discuss: Movies to See ONLY on the Big Screen
from Cinematical June 16, 2008
Filed under: Classics, Fandom, Exhibition, Lists There are a few classic films that I simply refused to rent while growing up, specifically for the reason that I knew I should see them for the first time on a big screen. Of these, I managed to see both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner in a theater, while others, such as Lawrence of Arabia and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, were on television too often to ignore them on the small screen first. One film that I'm still dying to see in a theater is Terrence Malick's Badlands. A few years ago I actually went to a special screening of the film in Connecticut, but it was disappointingly (understatement) projected from a DVD copy. Then two months ago it played one show at NYC's IFC Center, but I had to miss it for another engagement. Last week Entertainment Weekly presented an article/photo gallery titled "23 Movies You'd Like to See on the Big Screen," which lists these kinds of films (there's actually many more than 23 cited), most of which should ONLY be seen on the big screen, as they were originally meant to be. The list includes obvious epic choices like 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Gone With the Wind, The Greatest Show on Earth and The Ten Commandments, as well as other classics, like Malick's Days of Heaven, Casablanca, Once Upon a Time in the West, Star Wars, High Society, Halloween, Singin' in the Rain, To Kill a Mockingbird, Psycho, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Searchers, Stagecoach and The French Connection.Continue reading Discuss: Movies to See ONLY on the Big Screen Permalink | Email this | Comments

TVAMD2: Spies Like Us
from TV Ate My Dinner June 10, 2008
James Bond, Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer... The boys look at the best of the JB's and offer their survival tips to anyone looking at joining the spy game (on either side). Do's and don'ts we picked up watching 24's CTU and Her Majesty's Secret Service, and some basic budget suggestions for gadget designers and supervillains who are probably just overthinking their jobs. Plus a little zombie talk about George Romero's Diary of the Dead and the Day of the Dead remake.
