MultiTenant Data Access (MTDA) S+S Blueprint ReleasedMultiTenant Data Access (MTDA) S+S Blueprint Released
from Channel 9
August 25, 2008

In this video, Michael Lehman talks with Eugenio Pace about the new Multi-tenant Data Access Software + Services Blueprint.    The Multi Tenant Data Access (MTDA) Blueprint, part of the Software-plus-Services Blueprint program, provides guidance on writing a SQL Server based, single instance, multi-tenant data access layer similar to that used in LitwareHR sample application (SQL Server version). If you have the S+S Blueprints Manager installed you can get this Blueprint by updating from the RSS feed. If you want more information, you can visit the MTDA codeplex site: http://www.codeplex.com/mtda
Reporting and Analytics in Dynamics AX 2009Reporting and Analytics in Dynamics AX 2009
from Channel 9
August 11, 2008

I spent some time with Manoj Nuthakki on the Dynamics team chatting about how we take full advantage of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) in the recently released Dynamics AX 2009.  AX 2009 ships with 10 SSAS cubes out of the box so includes tons of prebuilt KPIs and reports all built on the SQL Server BI platform. Manoj walks us through how reports and charts are built in Visual Studio including conditional formating or custom business logic in C# while pulling metadata and data directly out of AX.  The reports are easily put into the AX 2009 rich desktop client and the enterprise portal web client (built on SharePoint).  With the role center integration a developer can build reports, charts and KPIs that appear only for the appropriate roles.  Since AX is an international product, localization is built right in.
SQL 2008 & Occasionally Connected Client Support in Visual Studio SP1SQL 2008 & Occasionally Connected Client Support in Visual Studio SP1
from Channel 9
August 08, 2008

In this interview, Milind Lele, a PM on the Visual Studio Pro Tools team shows us the improvements made to the tooling in Visual Studio SP1 for occasionally connected clients as well as the new data type support for SQL Server 2008. Using SQL 2008 built-in change tracking, you don't need to make modifications to your table schemas like you have to do with SQL 2005. Additionally he shows off a "smarter" DataSet designer where you can have tables coming from server and client data stores all contained within one model. Enjoy, -Beth Massi, VS Community

Paul touched on SQL Server Data Services and database services in the sky, generally. Here, SQL Server Technical Evangelist Ryan Dunn sits down and talks turkey with two of the creators of SQL Server Data Services (SSDS), Architect Istvan Cseri and Development Manager Nigel Ellis. Istvan and Nigel dig into how to design applications for SSDS and cover a number of the interesting aspects of working with SSDS in terms of features, design, and security.Low res file here.
