GEOFF ACHISON has a reputation as a guitarist’s guitarist. Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a style that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next. Jorma Kaukonen called Geoff, " ... one of the finest blues guitarists I know ." Fans of Tommy Emmanuel will love his playing, and he was recently voted by Guitar Player Magazine as one of the "Top Ten Hottest New Guitarists." He will be performing on WoodSongs solo acoustic. His new CD is called "Soul Digger. THE BAND OF HEATHENS are a roots rock band based out of Austin, Texas. In early 2006, the three principle songwriters were sharing the stage at a small club. Soon they started to collaborate and The Band of Heathens were formed. They quickly started to create a buzz around town due to their legendary live shows. During the 2007’s South By Southwest the band took home an award for “Best New Band.” The band will be performing material from their self-titled debut CD.

From Oakland, CA comes a three piece indie rock group aptly titled Songs for Mom, comprised of Molly / Allana (guitar / bass / vox), and Carey (drums). This last year they finished up a nationwide tour, having the chance to perform with Two Gallants and Blitzen Trapper. I don t know too much about them currently, although am intrigued by the song references to the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake d like to hear more you can check them out at the site above or at Starcleaner Records. This is the first offering after the original drummer for The Samples traveled to Jamaica with acoustic guitar and drum machine to record experimental dancehall/hiphop/party music with Jamaica s premiere musicians including Bounty Killer, Sly s and was treated to something unlike any of the other performances I d been to during the previous three days of the festival. Bouba plays the Kora, a 21 stringed lute, drums, and sang in his traditional West African style, while musicians jammed alongside. Rumor has it that earlier in the fesival, Bouba had heard a guitarist speaking his native language in town, introduced himself and shortly found himself playing side by side at the showcase, with quite the electric charge in the air and smiles all around. I recently spoke with Jeep and he was extremely excited to get this track out to you all. Like the rest of us here at Insomnia Radio, he was also very saddened by the recent loss of reggae pioneer Mikey Dread, definitely a legend he viewed as one of the all time greats. In this video podcast, we travel to Austin, Texas and the SxSW Interactive festival, to focus on what s inside people s computers, and just how much they re relying on those computers for work, communication and - all-important at the SxSW Festival creativity. Intel s Bryan Rhoads took the opportunity to blog from the conference using a MID. He used the mobile Internet device to bring his blog readers along with him to breakfast, and to snap a picture of two of Intel s tiniest products - the Atom processor and the silicon core of an Intel Core 2 Duo. We showed those tiny products to attendees at SxSWi, and found out how some creative folks are interacting with their computers (and what s inside).
