I am sharing with you all of the rough, which includes an embarressing "Yoko Ono" like voice, which is followed by what that inspired. (Sorry Yoko!) Ralph Murphy was born in England and raised in Canada. He has worked extensively on both sides of the Atlantic during his music career. His first #1 song in Europe was Call My Name by James Royal in 1966. After several years as an artist and producer, Ralph moved to New York in 1969 to produce the band April Wine and had two gold albums and one platinum. In 1971, Ralph had his first country hit in Nashville with Good Enough To Be Your Wife, #2 for Jeannie C. Riley. Other hits include He Got You for Ronnie Milsap and Half The Way for Crystal Gayle. Wally Wilson has a interesting story in that he started out in the music business as a janitor at Tree Music Publishing. That didn't last long though, when he was moved to a staff writer position. As a writer, Wally has had songs recorded by acts like Bo Diddley, Aaron Neville, Joe Cocker, Lonestar, Patti Loveless, and Joe Diffie. As a producer, he's worked with acts like Lonestar, Joan Baez, and Lorrie Morgan. Wally shared his advice for songwriters, thoughts on what makes a good song, and had some great behind the scenes stories from the acts that he's worked with. Well, despite HL s efforts to stream the podcast live, we had technical difficulties outside of our own control. Thusly, the podcast will not have a live video stream for this episode. Sorry :/ It s all Leo Laporte s fault! But, the duo still had lots to talk about. Work on the new album is chugging along nicely, finally! With no release date a of yet, CB W are working away on brand new tunes. One of which, Just Imagine , was just completed and only needs a good mixing. Who knows how many tracks the new album will have. At this point, it s best to just keep on doing what they re doing! OPM s included for the week were Christa s pick of Frisbee, thanks to Grant and his Three From Leith podcast, and War-N s pick was the new album Nine Heavens by Niyaz which is due out next week. All absolutely great stuff!! CB also chatted about the music store located in Louisville, KY called ear-X-tacy. Frisbee sells his cd s, and vinyl, there directly. Some times it feels good just to hit things - added bonus if that is a guitar that results in sounds you like. That was in any case the attempt represented in this episode of RoughMix which I am calling slap therapy. Listen in on the clip, recorded on the Palm Tungsten and you hear why I chose this as a title. My tip this time around is to let things run awhile. Do not always be in a hurry to "make" something and don't worry about polish or beauty. Raw emotion, and unvarnished energy and the simple joy of not have any rules is sometimes a real pleasure. It also has the added benefit of often causing something more refined to spring from this little exercise.
