Early in the game, the River Lakes team found the puck in their defensive zone for extended amounts of time. Giving up two quick goals, Jenn Paul put the Stars on the board. Shortly after Paul’s goal, the Stars went on the power-play only to give up a short-handed goal and once again trail by two. In the second period, the Stars jumped out to a three-goal lead only to give a couple right back. Although they played solid up front, at times the goaltending and defense would lose focus. The clan has moved to the very first den that we found them at nine months ago, I ve been catching the sunsets at the den with the cubs emerging for their late afternoon suckle. I spent a few late nights at the den, but the hyenas were pretty unproductive. The one morning they carried a baboon carcass back to the den there was a tug of war over who was going to get to rip the limbs off it, but the mothers are very protective over their carrion and only let their own cubs nibble on the carcass. I did manage to catch up with two playful males at Manuchi Pan though. I must say, the water sports got a little rough with the one trying to dunk the other - all in the name of a little fun though. All sorts of creatures emerge after a little wet weather, I ve seen plenty of toads just plodding around the den area, along with five water monitors in the Manuchi/Sosigi area. In between the light showers during the last few days we get to see the wild flowers emerging, not to mention the grass shooting to provide the grazing for the next season.

Perspective and knowledge: How we perceive ourselves

The New Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) began meeting in Rochester only about 3 months ago. In this short amount of time, several regional high school and college campuses have started chapters or have begun the process of becoming formal chapters, and a number of successful demonstrations have been organized by Rochester area SDS chapters. The original SDS (established 1960) was the largest student movement in history, and became an iconic force in New Left politics. As of this posting there are 113 active chapters with over 3000 members in the new SDS. This week on Indy TV, Maggie Spallina of Rochester SDS and Ryan Acuff of University of Rochester (U of R) SDS, join us to elaborate on what SDS is, it's use of participatory democratic decision making, and some of the many projects these groups are currently engaged in. Rochester SDS meets every Wednesday night (7pm) at the antiwar storefront at 658 Monroe Ave, and the U of R SDS meets every Thursday (9pm) at the Ruth Merrill Center, Wilson Commons, U of R Campus.
