Duration: 1681
Wake up and pay attention to the Immigration Emergency. This episode is about the legislation of intolerance and bigotry, and what you can do about it. First, Investigative Reporter Joe Richey reports on the Department of Homeland Security's existing funding, planning and execution of contracts (to KBR and other private security companies) to enable detection, detaining, and deportation of many immigrants. Some border states are already calling for the trigger: an official "Immigration Emergency". Then, an update on No More Deaths. Two humanitarian aid workers are readying for trial. They're accused of treason for providing water and medical aid to border-crossers. Preview a strong documentary making the festival circuit (and see it when it plays your town): "El Inmigrante" follows immigrants looking for a better life here in America, as they cross the border. And New America Media's Daffodil Alton takes us to LA high schools, where some of the most intelligently planned and peaceful demonstrations have been planned...by student activists. Then, if you're feeling like a song to rally by, open yr ears to musician Steve Taylor's rendition of activist Ralph Chaplin's "Mourn Not the Dead".

It's been seven years since the Wyoming Indian High School Chiefs have won a state championship in basketball. For most schools, this is a rather unremarkable statistic. But for the inhabitants of the Wind River Indian Reservation, who have experienced a century and a half of injustice, basketball is a form of empowerment, self-expression, and access to the world outside "the rez." By using basketball as a vehicle, the film explores what it means to grow up Native American at the turn of the 21st century.
