First Monkey at Ye Olde Royal Oak on Coleman by the airport. First band was insanely loud. Then a 17 year old guitar whiz. Then Monkey. I cut out before it was over. Crowd was different.

Brooklyn Funk Essentials is a musical group who mix jazz, funk, and hip hop collective featuring musicians and poets from different cultures. The band was conceived in 1993 by producer Arthur Baker and bassist and musical director Lati Kronlund. In the mid-1990s the group became a staple of the New York City club scene. Their debut album Cool and Steady and Easy (1994) scored an underground hit with the rendition of Pharoah Sanders' "The Creator Has a Master Plan". The following album, In The Buzz Bag (1998), included Turkish folk music rhythms and instruments, recorded in consortium with the Turkish clarinettist Hüsnü Şenlendirici. This was my first time at a DJ event at a bar as opposed to live music in a club. I got to the Knockout around midnight and had 2 hours of fun. Excellent music and good looking women dancing. I was wiped out and the drive home seemed to take forever, powered by Dub Assassins.

Peps put on a show for his birthday. I was pysched to The Whiskey Avengers for the first time. They were lots of fun. The first band wasn't my thing, but I liked the drummer. I skanked like a fool to WA and had some companions on the floor with me.
