From : Most Recent
Author: QIP1 Added: Sat, 04 Oct 2008 09:52:53 -0800 Duration: 64Planet of the apes on wheels! One of the strangest and most entertaining bicycle safety videos ever made, One Got Fat is a bizarre concoction of 1960s goofball childrens antics. The film poses many startling questions: for instance, why is it necessary for all the kids in this movie to wear monkey masks and tails while they go out on reckless bike rides? Bordering on surrealism, the masked youths meet various terrible fates as they get hit by trucks and fall down holes though theres no violence at all and the mood is humorous and cartoon-like throughout. One Got Fat is a must see film for anyone interested in the fascinatingly unusual cinema that was produced in the 1960s.

From : Dailymotion - most recent videos
There are a lot of things happening in and out of San Francisco. And sometimes it's hard to hear about everything that's going on, especially when you're trying to find protests to go to. So I took to going to a website called indybay.org. I recommend it, it's a good resource and they have it for many parts of the world. One day there was a post saying that there was going to be a protest at the UC-Berkeley campus. For those not familiar with the bay area, Berkeley is about 45 minutes away from San Francisco. I'll let the film tell the story, but as you can see we never found the protest that day. We're not quite sure why. Maybe they changed the date, and they forgot to take the post off the website? Maybe we couldn't find the right place on campus? Maybe nobody showed up? Whatever it was, we knew that what took place that day couldn't possibly speak for all of Berkeley, nor for the thousands of university students across The United States. So we started talking to as many people as we could. Young and old. Famously we talked to characters from the sixties like Peter Yarrow and Bobby Seale (well, almost) and the Raging Grannies of Santa Cruz, the angriest yet sweetest grammas you could ever hope to meet. But we also talked to many students and young activists. I have countless other colorful characters on tape; this is just supposed to serve as a small representation of the kinds of people that we encountered in our search for the spirit of the 60s. We were especially taken aback to what young people were saying. We could tell that there was something about to happen to our generation, something big. We just didn't know what it was yet. That's when another young person opened our eyes to another sixties theme...Author: FlowersTheMovie Tags: where have all the flowers gone movie film sixties flowersthemovie sanfrancisco austin hippies summer love hippy commercial protest imagine lennon yoko peace war anti-war iraq Posted: 28 September 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0

From : Dailymotion - most recent videos
We traveled South 100 miles to a small town in Baja California just east of Ensenada. Watching my two best friends feel so at home in a world they didn't know, is something I will never forget. They seemed closer to understanding a struggle that too often gets a one sided look by the American media. We were in Mexico for less than 24 hours; appropriately enough a Mexican cop robbed us and escorted us out of the country as soon as we made it back to Tijuana. Unfortunately my camera wasn't rolling, if not I would have loved to have been able to highlight one of the many reasons why people in Mexico feel like they must leave the country. As we rode home that night -- deported and without money- we were ready to come back to San Francisco to do the only thing we knew to do, speak truth to power. And that's exactly what we did. We went to an array of protests of all shapes and sizes, colors and causes- from the Iraq war to immigrant rights to joining the famous Berkeley Tree Sit-In. For those interested in knowing more about the Berkeley Tree Sitters, here goes: UC- Berkeley wanted to build a $125 million dollar state-of-the-art athletics training center but in order to do so they were going to have to cut down 38 live oak trees. One day 3 activists (one of which was a philosophy major at UC-Berkeley) decided to conduct a Tree Sit-In and vowed not to come down until the University changed its mind. Many other young people eventually joined their cause. To many, those 38 oak trees started symbolizing the greater environmental crisis facing the world. We were one of the few people allowed up to film them in their trees, 40 feet in they air. It was wild, especially because I'm terrified of heights. Even though no one knew our names or our story, we were determined to change things, but something was about to happen that would stop our spirits dead in their tracks...Author: FlowersTheMovie Tags: where have all the flowers gone movie film sixties flowersthemovie sanfrancisco austin hippies summer love hippy commercial protest imagine lennon yoko peace war anti-war iraq Posted: 27 September 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0

From : Dailymotion - most recent videos
For many reasons I can't tell you how we met Anna, except that she worked around the corner from where Bill and Joel used to work. As I mention in the film, I'm a first generation Mexican immigrant. And a proud one too. But I'm also one of the few that can call myself legal. So I've always been sensitive to the way people talk about the immigration issue . But for the first time since I can remember, I had two other non-immigrant friends asking tough questions as to why the immigration issue is where it is today. There are no easy answers as to how to solve the immigration issue. But after seeing Anna's eyes light up as she walked up to the ocean, we knew someone had to tell her story. Everyday we hear the Bill O'Reilly's of the world talk about how illegal immigrants shouldn't be allowed to stay here because, in short: they don't pay taxes, they steal good-paying jobs from Americans, and they are tarnishing the American way of life. All of which are debatable. But after the emotional experience of standing at the Tijuana border wall, we wanted to get the other side of the story- to try to see it through the eyes of an Immigrant. For a chance that one day, someone, somewhere, would see this film and (perhaps) be affected by it...Author: FlowersTheMovie Tags: where have all the flowers gone movie film sixties flowersthemovie sanfrancisco austin hippies summer love hippy commercial protest imagine lennon yoko peace war anti-war iraq Posted: 26 September 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0

From : Metacafe - Today's Videos by Metacafe
This bike safety film, set in the early sixties suburbia, brings back memories for those who grew up with Schwinn bicycles. The film goes over the basic rules of bike maintenance, proper equipment, and the rules for riding on the roads along side traffic. In the (not so true) world of this film, kids spend hours on bike maintenance, respect the rules of the road, and always yield to pedestrians. But this is a reflection of the conservative mentality in the 1960s, and thus provides historical insight. Bicycle Today, Automobile Tomorrow is a no-nonsense film that provides timeless tips on safe riding.

From : Dailymotion - most recent videos
This bike safety film, set in the early sixties suburbia, brings back memories for those who grew up with Schwinn bicycles. The film goes over the basic rules of bike maintenance, proper equipment, and the rules for riding on the roads along side traffic. In the (not so true) world of this film, kids spend hours on bike maintenance, respect the rules of the road, and always yield to pedestrians. But this is a reflection of the conservative mentality in the 1960s, and thus provides historical insight. Bicycle Today, Automobile Tomorrow is a no-nonsense film that provides timeless tips on safe riding.Author: QualityInformation Tags: bicycles cycling art vintage 60s 1960s 60's sixties historical helmets helmet bike dirt dances history accident fads Posted: 23 September 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0

The Dells - Run For Cover

From : YouTube :: Videos by ianlevine
What can you say about one of the greatest groups in history ?? The Dells have been singing and performing for over five decades, have sold millions of records, and are considered the most enduring vocal group in the history of Rhythm and Blues. Affectionately known as The Mighty Dells by fans and leaders in the music industry, its members including Marvin Junior (lead baritone), John Carter (lead tenor),Charles Barksdale (bass), Michael McGill (baritone) and Verne Allison(second tenor) have continued to set the standard for top-to-bottom male harmony.Initially known as the El-Rays, The Dells started in 1952 in Harvey, Illinois, as five friends from high school. Eventually, the El-Rays cut their very first single, Darling I Know, for Chess Records. It went nowhere. Two years later, with a new record contract with Vee Jay Records as The Dells, they released their 3rd recording Oh What A Night. It became an immediate R&B hit, finishing third behind Elvis' Don't Be Cruel at number two and Fats Domino's Blueberry Hill on top. The rest was musical history. The film, "The Five Heartbeats" was their basic life story, as a fiction, and I must say, being able to film them for our project was a pleasure and a privilege, especially as Charles Barksdale stayed on and introduced the whole premier of "Ther Strange World Of Northern Soul" in front of 2000 people in Blackburn in July 1999. And now, coming in October 2008, a tremendously exciting project for Northern Soul fans everywhere. We've done a deal with Wienerworld, a major music DVD company, and the same company who originally released our classic documentary "The Strange World Of Northern Soul", and we are now doing the definitive DVD box set. A five disc set of 200 performances called "Northern Soul's Greatest 200 Floorfillers". This uses some songs from "The Strange World Of Northern Soul" which are completely re-edited, so they look fresh and sparkling new. All the previous video effects done in the 1990s are gone forever, consigned to history. Plus loads and loads of never before seen videos, many of which have sat in the can untouched for many many years. Plus some newly recorded tributes to the classics. If you ever went to Blackpool Mecca or Wigan Casino, this is the must-have purchase of the year. In putting together this box set, we have nearly all the biggest all time blockbusters, "Out On The Floor", "Night Owl', "I'm On My Way", "Time Will Pass You By", "Blowing My Mind To Pieces", "Do I Love You", all sung by the original singers. We believe this will go down in history as the greatest Northern Soul DVD collection of all time. Here, the mighty mighty Dells sing their legendary biggest Northern Soul floorfiller, "Run For Cover", and this was yet another legendary Northern Soul smash that we filmed for "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". This was first recorded in 1967 and then we recut it in 1999 when we were filming our marathon six disc, twenty four hour massive documentary about the entire history of the Northern Soul scene, which contained 131 specially recorded performances of all the classics, and is still available on a six disc box set from Wienerworld. The Dells were happy to be a part of our ground breaking Encyclopedia Britannica of Northern Soul, and I am so glad that they agreed.
