445,959 Views - 2009 has been a spectacular year for Los Angeles California Mega Band Greenhouse Effect. The three piece Alternative rock band seems to work extremely well in cyberspace using their videos to Great Songs from "A Current Affair" to "Coke Snorting" and the 1991 classic "Brandy" to full potential. This Redondo Beach California based band was one of the earliest pioneers of the 'regular guy" ordinary band look - where-as, they came on stage at an evening gig wearing what ever they happened to be sporting that day clothing wise. In the Late 1980's era of heavy metal Glam rock, G.e. were a strange spectacle indeed, often looking more like they just came from the local 7-11, Mighty mart.,...or Circle K,...or maybe hanging out down at Redondo Beach's "Burn out" beach but when they plugged in their instrument gear, there was no better (Or louder) band indeed. Great Songwriting was always a necessary key for G.e. as they mesmerized crowds with one strong arrangement after the next, often using the guitar of Phil Keegan (Dr. Phil) in their early incarnation,...to all it's glory. Later on, Drummer Clark Hagins would pick up the 6 string ,..and he would quickly literally "Learn to play" on stage - right before the crowds eyes, ...often copying the very scales that Keegan once mastered to add to his own classic brutal guitar driven anthems such as 1991's "Winers, Diners, and Social Climbers". Today, Greenhouse Effect are rock music's most heavily entrenched internet warriors as they are seen millions of times a day and linked to heavily all over the world by millions of websites. "Selling itunes and Napster Mp3's is our goal and we accomplish that now" says Clark Hagins "Though it would be nice to get on to television or into a movie and make some real cash". Greenhouse Effect and Hagins bitterly attack Youtube for it's Payola -like behavior where they seem to promote 'certain videos' or their friends clips. "I think that Youtube is unfair,..we get plays all over the world but they will not accept you there if you don't play by their rules,...they will try to make you look small there if you don't pay them money,....Sure, we got some huge videos there, but alot of our great songs aren't getting alot of views - either that or they aren't counting them there correctly ,..which I think is a piece of horse shit !!" - Clark Hagins started his music career some 30 years ago in the South Bay drumming for bands like 'Soul Clinic' and the Jim Mellon Quartet before hooking up with power guitarist Phil Keegan and the Greenhouse Effect in 1986 where Hagins penchant for melody and songwriting helped G.e. become a spectacular South Bay Live band phenomenon. "We had some great gigs and Keegan always brought the best shit to the table ,..We were great,...We invented alot,....Everyone says now that we were the first grunge band but I think we were more of a psychedelic trip ,..man we were heavy fucking shit ,...for a three piece,...I had to sing and drum at the same time and that was not easy !!". Phil Keegan's song from 1989 'SIX FEET UNDER' racks up some of the biggest views in cyberspace for a music video and it has single-handedly propelled little G.e. to very respectable status as one of the web's biggest bands to Hagins astonishment. Six Feet Under is a classic and it has a jazzy bluesy feel of a melody,...it deserves to be so huge,..its a classic ,..and those pissed off lyrics are very mandatory listening." Hagins says that his nice guy persona back in the South Bay does not apply well to the cyberspace attack that is G.e. and that alot of the old 'feelings' come back when he watches the songs and videos of his youth. "Back in the South Bay, I may have been a little too cool to those people,..I didn't realise that People would rather prefer a jerk,...I expected them to go to my gigs but they went to other band's shows who today now are nowhere near compared to who G.e. is now. If I had the net back in 89',..well who knows,...I coulda worked some wonders then maybe" - "I was always nice to people and they were nearly almost always a total dick to me,..so now, I'm not so nice on here,....and if yer one of my enemies now,..I'll fuckin' destroy ya ,..cause now I'm one of the biggest and best video makers on here,...I don't take kindly these days anymore to people talking shit about G.e. or Keegan or me,...I got the hit songs that everybody knows and digs,...they fuckin' like me now man,...and it's been hard work to turn around a guy who everyone always hated from the beginning,....I wanna make music that makes people stoked and tickles their melody bone,...I know exactly what I am doing and I rule at this fucking shit,....I don't need to take off all my clothes like Tila Tequila,..I do it with melody,..but I do it with alot of pain,..my life sucked when i was young and I had few friends,..it really comes across in my lyrics now,..people can sense the pain - and that is important !!" Being an Entertainer who brings joy and melody is the most important thing for Hagins and G.e. "We look like strange guys but we're always having a kick ass great time,..we really make people laugh but we really are good too,..today's bands don't have enough of a sense of humore like we do,..we are really very fun,....but we're serious too - believe me,..there is no band that is more serious than G.e. !!" The frustration that Hagins feels at Youtube and the way that they once shut off a huge G.e. account that had over a million plays ,..still bothers Hagins ; "Fuck Youtube !! - they're a buncha phoney fake ass web traffic over there,...its all payola with those motherfuckers !!" Haggins says that G.e's ability to get a Large audiece to "Believe' is critical; "People don't believe in other bands now,...they wanna believe in us and they want to root for G.e. ,..we are just t-shirts and jeans kinda guys,..we are regular normal people,...all those emo bands from today all look and sound the same,...G.e. is the difference ,..we are a special unique situation,.....an audience believes in me,...they believe in G.e",....Sometimes I really do wish that they hadn't treated me so bad as a kid,....because it's turned me into a narcisist....I really have something to prove now - and I am 44 years old - i'm too Old for this fucking shit !!!!....this whole thing is terrible but it is highly watchable and educational,...we like to entertain and fortunately, we know exactly how to channel all the negatives into positives". Some of Greenhouse Effect Songs tend to be a bit racey and edgy - even almost controversial - but hot button controversy is nothing new or all that scary for the very brave and ambitious Hagins who sees the "White Black" song and other G.e. tid bits as "Very necessary" art. "I have to express myself exactly and if that means offending a few people oh well,...the way i see it,..is I have to set out to piss off millions of people ,..but if they Learn something then it is well worth it !! My goal really is to provoke and anger dipshits,...but I figure that you have to break a few eggs to make a great Grande omlette and G.e. is like frickin' i-Hop !!,...I want to be one of the greatest of all time,..i want people to know that I am right there with Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky,....and Like I say - I rock for 300 years from now ,..not just for now !!,....juicy tight melodies are my platform !!". Brandy and the White Black Song have made G.e. the pinnacle Legends of cyberspace and gotten Hagins the respect of a whole new generation but Hagins does not see G.e. as over or in the past; "If me and Flipper can get financial backing then hell yeah,...I want to record a whole new album with Keegan and its gonna be great !!" Hagins often remembers back to and discusses THE CONTROVERSY with Los Angeles's Bam Magazine from 1989/ 90 where the Magazine seemed to be accusing Hagins himself of trying to "Buy his way to a positive review" from the Magazine with his band's own advertising budget dollars - and just as G.e. were trying to make it big with a recording deal. "That thing with Bam Magazine I have never forgotten and it was weird because i had like four A & R men call me from labels ,..all because of that shit,...they suddenly wanted to hear our songs,...imagine that ??,...well, THAT WASN'T THE WAY THAT I wanted to get attention ,...and No,...I don't do shit like THAT,....I was mad at Bam because they would put all their friends (and friends of a friends) to the top of their lists and thats all i was saying,....I don't do dishonest shit to get places,....My music does the talking and if people refuse or don't want to review it then that is because they really know its good and they don't know what to do if it isn't on their 'special friend's list",....Fuck them - they are cowards !!" ======================== - Great Savy web tricks and things Like the Zeus 1000 Link Marketing Robot "keep" G.e. at the Top forever, enabling the band to sell the itunes and mp3's that keep their Myspace Profile and Jango Radio Airplay an always constant. "Its very important to be on Jango internet radio the way that G.e. is" says Clark Hagins "We have to keep songs like BRANDY in the top rotation of their airplay and at Pandora Radio and Last.fm ,...all these things work together in conjuntion Like a well organized machine and thats why we stay popular,......until we can achieve real FM RADIO Airplay like for example at a radio station like KROQ in Los Angeles, ...then we do what we must,...these are all the kinds of things that we can do,...atleast for now,.....I do think it's bullshit the way that PAYOLA still dominates,....record Labels still pay off radios even to this day here in 2009,...I ain't got the cash to do shit like that,....and I wouldn't even if I could,....I think that FM RADIOS around America need to find the courage to play songs that are huge on the internet Like Brandy by Greenhouse Effect,....and quit hyping all that old shit still,..that they do from the 90's,....its time to give G.e. a chance !! fair and square,....- if we could get onto the airwaves,...We would definitely be hugely successful,..our sound is totally different,...we could only help American FM RADIO - because these days, their ratings are all way down - THEY NEED US MORE THAN THEY'LL EVER KNOW,.....alot of radio stations are going off the air due to lack of listeners,....thats because they're all on the net listening to bands like G.e. !!"
