Jónsi: Boy Lilikoi

Jónsi: Boy Lilikoi

from Puddlegum on December 06, 2009
Duration: 0
First came a side project from Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi Þór Birgisson and his partner Alex, called Riceboy Sleeps. Only six months later we re seeing the first glimpses of a solo album by Jónsi, simply called Go. The album will be release in 2010 via XL Recordings, the same label that Sigur Rós is signed to. On December 1st he launched his website for his debut solo album, offering an mp3 for those who sign up on his email list. As of yet, the website consists of an Jónsi s name, but clicking on the letters of his name teases you with song samples. For those that have longed to hear Jónsi sing in English, you re in for a treat. He began recording the solo album this summer with Alex and Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Tokyo Police Club) after hearing his work with Fanfarlo. Sigur Rós s website stated in May: The album will be largely acoustic and feature string arrangements from contemporary classical composer Nico Muhly (Grizzly Bear, Antony and the Johnsons). According to Nico, Jónsi’s solo music can be described as ecstatic. As for more Sigur Rós music, we re informed that the band has also been hard at work on scoring a soundtrack: Seven Sigur Rós songs and one Jónsi Jónsi Boy Lilikoi

Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

from Spinner on November 10, 2009
Duration: 0
Filed under: The Hit List Perfectly matching a song with a scene is nothing new (see: Scorsese, Martin), but Wes Anderson takes the movie soundtrack to new levels of artistry. In all his films, the young writer-director displayed a record geek's ability to wow viewers with a song that's not only enjoyable but, at its best, makes a scene instantly memorable. With the release of 'Fantastic Mr. Fox,' Anderson's first animated feature, Spinner picked the director's 10 best music moments. The Who, 'A Quick One While He's Away' ('Rushmore') While a ton of songs in 'Rushmore' enhance scenes, this revenge montage, where Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman feud over the love of a local teacher, is absolutely killer in that department. As icing on the cake, Anderson stops the Who's sonic assault (lifted from their amazing performance on 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus') for a moment, then kicks it back in with a cut to Schwartzman in handcuffs being dragged down a high school hallway. Meanwhile, the Who, rather ironically, scream, "You are forgiven!"

Carousel of Dreams and Sorrows - The fallen Jethopper

Carousel of Dreams and Sorrows - The fallen Jethopper

from recent posts tagged avatar - blip.tv (beta) on August 17, 2009

This is a character on Immersiva sim in second life. It is an abandoned Robot theme park where the robots are left behind to find a purpose. The tiny jethoppers would see the large jethopper on the carousel each day. They saw him as a god of sorts. Distant and separate. One day the jethopper fell in the wind and when the tiny ones saw him next he was not a mystery anymore. They saw he was rusty and a machine like them.

Fanfarlo: Reservoir

Fanfarlo: Reservoir

from Puddlegum on June 16, 2009
Duration: 0
Every year brings a few surprisingly strong debuts by new artists. Last week we purchased Fanfarlo s Reservoir for $1 (the offer ends on July 4), not expecting what we heard. Fanfarlo - Harold T Wilkins, Or How To Wait For A Very Long Time Whenever you receive an email saying that Jónsi of Sigur Rós is floored by a new artist, you need to at least check them out. Fanfarlo made such a strong impression on Sigur Rós that the album cover is a photo of Sigurrós (Jónsi s sister) and her cousin Disa. Sigur Rós had this to say about this band from London: [Fanfarlo] made the record in Connecticut with a guy called Peter Katis and, as the more vigilant of you may have noticed,  Jónsi liked it so much that he has started work on his own solo record with the same dude.
