Keeping Cool Without Breaking the Bank
from Revver - house Videos July 30, 2008
Author: mdlk Added: Tue, 29 Jul 2008 20:33:37 -0800 Duration: 113Tips for Surviving the Summer Heat With gas prices higher than ever and the economy on shaky ground, the average American is looking for ways to cut costs. But, that doesn't have to mean going without AC and "sweating it out" this summer. By taking a few steps around your house, you can stay cool without breaking the bank. Here is one simple step: switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs. CFLs use less energy and give off less heat, so the air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard. Home experts also suggest using a programmable thermostat so the unit only clicks on when you need it the most. Here are some other expert tips for cutting energy costs: - Keep shades closed during peak sun hours; - Plant trees outside your home to provide shade; - Make sure your air conditioning units have the Energy Star label; - Try ceiling fans in place of AC; - Consider a programmable home network control system. Summer Allergies - Nothing to Sneeze At!
from Revver - american Videos July 16, 2008
Author: mdlk Added: Wed, 16 Jul 2008 14:33:44 -0800 Duration: 122The dog days of summer are here and for many the heat and humidity mean one thing, allergies. With an estimated 40 percent of children and 20 percent of adults suffering from allergies, rates are on the rise. Americans are spending three billion dollars a year on antihistamines, often without knowing which allergies are actually causing their symptoms. Doctors say in-vitro blood tests, the latest generation of allergy tests, can help take the guess work out of diagnosis and treatment. Unlike the skin prick tests of the past, which can take an hour and a half to perform and require up to 150 injections, in-vitro tests, require just one blood sample. Systems like the IMMULITE(r)2000 are then able to test the sample for up to 440 specific allergens and allergy panels. Doctors say this testing method is not only more convenient, efficient and accurate but more comfortable for the patient as well. The tests can be performed in patients over the age of three months. Seeing the Body in HD
from Revver - medical Videos June 15, 2008
Author: mdlk Added: Sun, 15 Jun 2008 01:06:09 -0800 Duration: 138World's First HD PET-CT Scanner Installed Worldwide Ask any entertainment or electronic junkie and they will tell you, HD is where it's at. And, while watching your favorite TV show in HD won't save your life, new advancements in HD medical technology just might. The Biograph HD PET-CT system from Siemens is the world's first to utilize high-definition technology. Makers say the system will enable doctors to view high-resolution, distortion-free images, allowing them to visualize small lesions and reduce false positives. In medical terms, PET-CT integrates the functional sensitivity of PET, with the rich anatomical detail of diagnostic CT, allowing physicians to detect changes in molecular activity before anatomical changes become visible. This helps doctors detect diseases like Alzheimer's or heart disease, before they become apparent using traditional imaging methods. The system was first unveiled last year and is being installed at hospitals worldwide. Produced for Siemens

Turning Trash into Treasure
from Revver - car Videos June 04, 2008
Author: mdlk Added: Wed, 04 Jun 2008 18:16:20 -0800 Duration: 128If one man's trash is another man's treasure, then landfills just might be the latest goldmine. With oil prices at record highs and increased attention on conserving the environment, businesses and communities are increasingly looking to landfill gas as a source for fuel. All landfill trash decomposes over time and releases methane, a greenhouse gas, into the air. At landfills across the county, new technology is being developed to capture that natural gas, treat it and send it where it can be used as fuel. A growing number of companies are finding landfill gas to be a clean, reliable energy source that can be purchased at significantly lower costs than conventional natural gas. In addition, the environmental benefits of landfill gas are significant. According to the EPA, the reduction in greenhouse gases from this project alone is equivalent to removing 41,000 cars from the road or reducing oil consumption by more than 50,000 barrels a year. Landfill Gas Helps Local Communities and the Environment If one man's trash is another man's treasure, then landfills just might be the latest goldmine. At Three Rivers Landfill in South Carolina, landfill gas travels 17 miles through a pipeline to Kimberly Clark's Beech Island facility, where it helps to power the manufacturing plant. A growing number of companies like these are finding landfill gas to be a clean, reliable energy source that can be purchased at significantly lower costs than conventional natural gas. In addition, the environmental benefits of landfill gas are significant. Femap V10: Mesh Improvement Tools
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 09, 2008
The new mesh improvement tools include the ability to burn in surfaces around stress raisers like holes and fillets to increase mesh control and refinement in these areas of high stress gradients. http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/femap/femap_10.shtml

Femap V10: Mesh Density and Control Surface
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 09, 2008
In Femap version 10 it's possible to refine a surface mesh interactively by updating Mesh Size on Curves. Simply select one or more curves in the model, update the mesh density, and view the resulting mesh changes instantly. This is a very quick and easy way to change the mesh creating the desired level of detail in areas where it's needed, such as around stress raisers like the hole in this plate model. By placing small elements in areas of rapidly changing stress you can be sure of obtaining more accurate results while maintaining a managable model size. http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/femap/femap_10.shtml

Femap V10: Mesh Denisty and Control Solids
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 09, 2008
In Femap version 10 it's possible to refine a solid mesh interactively by updating Mesh Size on Curves. Around a stress raiser, like the junction between the two pipes in this solid model, stress gradients are likely to be steep. To ensure accurate results the mesh should be refined in these regions. This can now be done interactively, so you can instantly see the resulting mesh improvements. http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/femap/femap_10.shtml

Femap V10: Interactive Mesh Generation and Verification
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 09, 2008
Key to the generation of accurate results is a sound mesh of well shaped elements. Femap version 10 makes it easier to get the mesh that you want, by allowing you to interactively edit the mesh directly. You can move nodes either individually, or select a set to move at the same time, interactively. The nodes are restricted to move only within their native geometries -- either on a surface or along a curve. You can immediately view the effects of your edits and at the same time monitor the accuracy of the mesh with the resulting color criteria plot that displays a preselected element distortion or quality checking parameter such as aspect ratio, internal angle, warp, taper Jacobian, etc. http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/femap/femap_10.shtml
