READ THIS ONLY IF YOU WANT TO HEAR A RANT Here's the non-rant part. Ashfur is with Whitewing now, but still thinks about Squirrelflight sometimes. Meanwhile, Whitewing is trying to get over Shrewpaw. Here's the rant part: I've been thinking and thinking about why I love Ashfur so much. Why is he my favorite character? What's with all these weird quirks and sensitiveness in his direction? While I was thinking about this, I had the radio on. Just the same old songs were playing, but suddenly, "Everytime I Hear Your Name" came on. I did the strangest thing- I cried. How weird is that? Crying over a song... you may ask why. I realized that everything Ashfur has been through, I've been through it... I've felt admiration towards one of my older friends, just as Ashfur admired Cloudtail. I felt the disappointment he felt when my friend abandoned me, and Cloudtail left Ashfur for the Twolegs. I felt the rage of someone hurting my Mom extremely badly, just as Tigerstar killed Brindleface. Just like Tigerstar killed Brindleface. I felt the inkling of love towards a guy, just like Ashfur felt before Squirrelflight left on the journey. That guy was out of my life for awhile, but when he came back, I still loved him. But he had brought another girl with him. And though I was a bit jealous, I put it behind me. Just as Ashfur tried to be civil with Brambleclaw, it was all for Squirrelflight. He didn't want to hurt her feelings, and I didn't want to hurt that guy's feelings. We both felt the sting of our love's betrayal as they pretended to love us, but turned their backs upon us for the other person/cat. My good friend pushed me aside, in a thing I secretly strove for. Just as Brambleclaw shoved Ashfur aside to become deputy. Ashfur and I... we're so similar! We seem simple and modest at first, with not much depth. But we have so many layers of loyalty and kindness and compassion, with just a hint of love. And... and I really, really like Ashfur just for that! I can feel everything he feels, and I am so happy about that! It's like Ashfur and I are practically the same person! Well, in his case, a cat.
