Grand Bahama Island The Bahamas Weekly News Team went to Taino Beach to experience first hand the Junkanoo Summer Festival 2009 grand launch ceremony July 10th Bahamas Independence Day. Amidst the toughest economic times to date and major budgetary cuts, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism team on Grand Bahama Island, through teaming up with local entrepreneurs, have pulled off a hugely successful launch of Junkanoo Summer Festival 2009. The event was officially opened by The Hon. Kenneth Russell, MP for High Rock (Grand Bahama Island) and Minister of Housing who echoed The Bahamas motto Forward Upwards Onwards Together!
