The Dignity of the Nobodies

The Dignity of the Nobodies

from Hartle Media on April 27, 2006
Duration: 157
I had an opportunity to see two films at the San Francisco International Film Festival last night. The first film I saw was The Dignity of the Nobodies, a cinema verite documentary by Fernando E. Solonas. The film captures the untold stories of the everyday people in Argentina: a man who was shot in the head during a protest and the man who saved him, a poor priest railing against police mafias and operating a soup kitchen out of his home, and an unfortunate picketeer who was shot and killed while trying to help a fellow comrade who had been shot by the police. The Dignity of the Nobodies is a beautiful film and achieves an intimacy rarely achieved by cinema. It is both a tragedy of the rampant poverty that rages through Argentina and the horror stories of these people's oppression, but it is also a dark fairy-tale of sorts illustrating that everyday people can and do change the world we live in for the better every day. After the film, Fernando Solonas was able to sit down for some Q an excerpt of this Q Saturday, April 29th 1:00PM at the PFA and on May 1st at 7:00PM at the Aquarius Theatre in Palo Alto.
