The Coming of the Wildebeest
from Vimeo / Recent Public Videos July 03, 2008
The Coming of the Wildebeest from Joseph Kimojino on Vimeo. This morning near Mara Bridge we could see many many wildebeest covering the hills in the Tanzanian Serengeti. They have been gathering for the last few days and their number now is very large. The Sand River is very shallow with no crocodiles at this point, but for some reason they do not cross yet. Instead they just come down to the river to drink. Cast: Joseph Kimojino

Adventures in Masai Mara
from YouTube :: Recently Featured May 10, 2008
Located about 5 hours west of Nairobi, Masai Mara is the Kenya's greatest park. The Mara is an extension of the Serengeti and covers over 1500sqkm. It contains a staggering amount of game especially during the annual wildebeest migration. There are no fences around the reserves in Kenya and Tanzania allowing the animals to roam freely in search of new grasses for grazing. The wildebeest migration is one of the few large movements of game in the world. The wildebeest give birth to their calves in the South East Serengeti then move into the Western Serengeti before heading north to Masai Mara in July. They feed on the lush grasses of the Mara until October as the Serengeti plains are too dry. In December, the rains return to the Serengeti as does the migration. There are 1.3 million wildebeest; 200,000 zebra; and 350,000 gazelles estimated in the migration. Of course all the lions follow these animals making the Mara the most predator-packed reserve in the world. Cheetahs are very difficult to see in most African parks, but they are very easily seen here. Wildebeest can't pass up the opportunity to drink as they cannot go longer than 5 days without water. They will risk life and limb to do so. In the morning they might cross the croc- infested river only to re-cross the same river later in the afternoon. We camped for 16 days in the park at a community run Masai camp near Talek gate. We can't wait to do it again! One of my bookmarks : THE WILD CLASSROOM http://www.thewildclassroom.com/ Great documentaries & class lessons about nature, ecology, ... On Top a Mountain? The Alpine Tundra ! visit http://robnelsonfilms.blip.tv/ In the late 1800's a man by the name of C. Hart Merriam was surveying the land from the bottom of the Grand canyon to the top of the Rocky Mountains. He noticed that distinct plant communities were found as one increased elevation. He noticed that lower elevations were prairies, then dry steppes, Ponderosa Pine, montane forests, subalpine forests and finally the alpine tundra. In this Ecogeeks episode Suzi Serengeti and Rob Nelson take a look at this zone above the trees. Safari Cast Show Five
from Safari Cast Maasi Tails April 08, 2006
Suffering from overwork and a cold its been hard to get around to making a podcast. Playing with using my new cellphone to record and not liking the results. Another quick word with Gregory about his work with Kenneth Brannagh on his new film which should be released any time soon. Also the loudest frogs ever on a very wet Masai Mara morning. A quick mention also of the next silly project. Most importantly a public confirmation of the drop round for a beer promise made in a couple of emails to listeners. If your in South Africa you can claim your beer at the Bierfassl in Nottingham Road, its my local. In Kenya from June 1st it will be at Governors Camp! One beer on me for any listener that pitches up -)

Safari Cast Show Four
from Safari Cast Maasi Tails February 26, 2006
Ever wondered how some of those fancy shots on National Geographic and the BBC were taken? Loose sleep no more, because from deep in his secret base shed Geoff reveals all. Never ceases to amaze what strange and interesting folk can be encountered whilst on safari in Kenya. Geoff is neither strange nor interesting come to that. No only joking. His hidden radio controlled cameras and model helicopters have taken some stunning television footage. You might have seen, Spy in the herd or walking with dinosaurs well he was there. Oh and the Spice Girls video,Stop, but I don't think he should be too proud of that -)

Safari Cast Show Two
from Safari Cast Maasi Tails February 04, 2006
Yet another song from Dr Richard Estes, the saga of the flooded Mara river comes to an end and we meet Max. He is the pilot of a Cessna 206 and is normally at the heart of an amusing story or two. His training and method of finally ending up in Kenya are worth a podcast in themselves. Still getting to grips with RSS and podcasting.
