Late this summer, the family drove out to Lake Havasu, AZ to visit the in-laws. One evening as we were headed out, we were treated to a gloriou sunset. the sky turned colors and the car's shadow raced alongside us. I was entranced for the entire journey. I originally planned to make 3 seperate Lumiere-type videos out of the footage, but upon further review I decided to cut down to the best shots and create a more consice clip. Shot on FLiP video recorder in 3iVX format. Cut in Final Cut Pro in PhotoJPEG. Color timing and some light roto in AfterEffects. Encoded in Episode to FLV and H264. Music by Weekend Players. This is my first post for SemanalPost one video every week in 2008. That's all you have to do.Five days after it was announced, there are already 80 people signed up!Hopefully more will join throughout the year. Ryanne and Jay are visiting from America, and they'll be joining us. I expect that the cool things about Navlopomo will develop much further - the sense of community, the inspiration and the way that people replied to, referenced and remixed each other in their films. So I've committed myself to this thing called Semanal. In addition to being a neat thing to do, it will also keep me motivated to make video's throughout the year. It's like when you start working out at the gym at the beginning of the year due to some New Year's resolution. It's always better if you work out with a friend to keep you motivated. I feel that everyone at Semanal is there to keep me motivated.People think that broadcasting on the radio is really complicated and requires a lot of equipment. Well, as this video shows, the hardware part is easy. It's the legal stuff that's a pain in the ass. In some ways I hope all FM stations move to satellite. Maybe then (with the FM waves cleared) I can pull out this little transmitter again and have some fun.

Language matters here in Los Angeles. Communities form and dissolve based on who you are and how you say it. It is a blessing and sometimes a tribulation but language gives all of us an opportunity to reach beyond what we know and see. Last weekend I attended the annual hacker congress in Berlin. As usual, being surrounded by some of the world's most brilliant and creative minds left me inspired, enlightened, and exhausted.
