A brief trip into a rather surreal painting I did in 1997. I have my own secret story about it but it's up to you to put any interpretation you wish on it. The soundtrack is, again, composed by me in Garage Band.

Ah, the smell of seaweed and seagull poop. The grating sound of sea rats. Makes your cube feel pretty comfortable right now. My mother in law, I discovered, doesn't care much for seagulls. Neither does WifeofNalts. I wonder if they mind if I post this? Common, guys You know I love you both. And this is just a tiny bit funny, isn't it? A teeny weenie bit funny? Payment

Me, chasing seagulls, in Florida. It's also me starting to use Final Cut Express. Wow, is FCE different from iMovie! Many more steps to edit video... but also lots more fine-tuning allowed, too. So this video is me testing out two different types of dissolves (cross dissolve and fade in/out dissolve), adding some titling within the movie and at the end, and fading the audio out at the end, too. And adding fade ins and outs at the beginning and ending of the movie. Enjoy!

Weather predictions. The gulls know. Why the duck? What duck?, you say. Look closely, lounging near center. Colder than expected? More snow than anticipated? Certainly the duck nows. Why won't she tell us? And, the gulls on the rocks, an even number? Or odd? On Monday, an even number means..... Oh, the duck says, do not tell. Kind of Shakespearen...... "How now, wool-sack, what mutter you?"

This is part of a project where I mailed a super8 camera and sound recorder to friends around the world, to: Victoria, BC, Canada Cawston, BC, Canada Winnipeg, MN, Canada Gaspe, QC, Canada Olso, Norway Lund, Sweden Tsuruga, Japan The idea was that everyone shoot a roll of film based on a postcard, then mail the package on to the next person. This is Robert Yates's film. Shot on Kodachrome 40 7220 super8, in Gaspe, Quebec.
