Turn Off the Water! from Planet Bonehead on May 16, 2008 0 views
In our first animated jingle, the Boneheads teach us that kids really do have the power to make a difference and start saving our planet right now. One simple thing we can all do is to turn off the water when you brush your teeth. You'll save about 2 gallons every time you brush.Saving water also saves energy - the energy used to collect, treat and pump it. This, in turn, cuts down on the greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere and fights global warming. That s right, you can do all that by simply turning off the water while brushing your teeth. See, it s easy to be a planet protector. So act now and make planet Earth a great place to live. After all, it s your planet too!

Lazy Jockey’s: Video from Wildcast - African bush adventures live-blogged to a screen near you on May 15, 2008 3 views
At least today I didn’t find any new carcasses. But then I took a different route heading west down to the Chiredzi River. It’s just the most magical drive down there in the Acacia woodlands. But in the early hours things are always pretty quiet along the river although I did see this giraffe bull heading down to drink. A few elephant were a ways off feeding in the mopanie woodlands where they get most of their sustenance at this time of year. Just before heading back to hangar duty I did my rounds on Banyini and in the cool weather, this really handsome White Rhino bull was drinking at the pan before sauntering off south. And just as I was about to start work, a troop of baboon crossed the airstrip right next to my hangar. Those little guys riding on their mom’s backs sure have it good. They’re always so comical. Pity my mom’s back was never that comfortable AND fun! adventure, africa, african, animal, animal kingdom, animals, baboon, blog, blogumentary, documentary, ecotraining, education, elephant, elephants, experience, experience adventure, flickr, giraffe, GLTP, gonarezhou, Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, malilangwe, Malilangwe narrowcasting, mashable, narrowcasting, Open Content Alliance, pamushana, peace parks, photo, photos, podcasting, teach, video, white rhino, wildcast, wildcasting, wilderness, wildlife, wildlife documentary, youtube, zimbabwe

The Enigma Machine from The Mr Science Show on May 12, 2008 9 views
The Enigma machine was once considered unbreakable, and the cracking of the "unbreakable code" by the allies changed the course of World War 2. This week on the podcast we talks to Nadia Baker from the Enigma Project about the history of codes and code-breaking, why the Enigma machine was considered unbreakable, the mathematics behind codes, and how it was finally cracked. The Enigma Project travels all over the United Kingdom and abroad, visiting over 100 schools and organisations, reaching over 12,000 people of all ages every year. Listen to this show here. You can read more on the Enigma Machine in this Plus article. Coincidentally, I did the same course in Science Communication as Nadia, just a few years apart. Funny to meet up in Cambridge!
