Felipe Reyes, a San Antonio native, is one of the many artists that display their work at the Blue Star during First Friday, an event that showcases galleries and artwork on the first Friday of every month in the King William District. Reyes gives insight into his work and what he believes is the reason behind any negative criticism of First Friday events.

The first annual Un Noche de La Gloria was held in the historic Guadalupe Cultural Arts District. The festival was host to Painters, Dancers, Musicians, and Poets from the West side of San Antonio and beyond. Watch some videos of the festivities including an interview with organizers

The Earth Island Institute created the annual Brower Youth Awards to honor six young people for their outstanding activism and achievements in the fields of environmental and social justice advocacy. Each winner is awarded $3000 and brought to San Francisco for the award week and a backcountry camping trip. This video, made by Rikshaw Films, gives a little bit of insight into the kind of work the Institute is promoting with this award. Diana Lopez is a food justice activist in San Antonio, Texas, and she created the Roots of Change community garden in the Eastside of San Antonio to provide fresh organic food to community residents.
