From RH Reality Check, this video looks at the state of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in South Carolina. Much of the state is poor and rural, and suffers from a lack of both proper health care funds and proper education for the population. Activists in the state note that the stigma and the lack of information are still as bad in parts of South Carolina as they were in 1981, when the virus first hit the American consciousness. Activists are calling for a massive public health initiative to slow the spread of HIV and to treat people who have already contracted the virus. RH Reality Check has more on how you can help.

Who could forget the sad case of 11-month-old baby Henry Salter? He was orphaned when his parents Andrew and Anita were killed in a car crash last week in country New South Wales. The family was returning home to Condobolin from the Dubbo Base Hospital 200 kilometres away where Henry had been treated for breathing difficulties. Henry survived the crash with a few bumps and bruises. Police believe fatigue was a factor in the accident, relatives say the Salters were forced to make the long drive because of funding cuts at their local base hospital. Country doctors say the tragedy highlights the under-investment in rural health. The problem will be the focus of a national conference of rural doctors from across Australia taking place today.
