Pat O Conner, Minneapolis's Director of Elections, explains Ranked Choice Voting, and what triggered the hand count in Minneapolis. With light voting, and veteran counters, it should go quickly. Machines in the future, will do the count, but none are currently certified for use here. Light turn-out, and inexperience mean that it may not have really been exploited by the voters this year.

We've heard a lot of what ranked choice voting or instant runoff voting means to voters this year in Minneapols, but what about the candidates? Matt Sampson is a campaign worker for Minneapolis Ward 6 Councilman Robert Lilligren. The UpTake's Craig Stellmacher ran into him right outside the polls on election day. They talk about how the new voting system has already produced some interesting results, in that two of Robert Lilligren's opponents, Laura Jean and Mike Tupper, campaigned together and cooperated against the incumbent for his Ward 6 City Council seat.
