SPOS #178 - Media Hacks #20 Live (To Hard Drive) From New York City

from Six Pixels of Separation - Marketing and Communications Insights - By Mitch Joel at Twist Image on November 22, 2009
Duration: 0
Welcome to episode #178 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. This is also episode #20 of Media Hacks and it's live from New York City. In a very rare moment, the entire Media Hacks crew - Chris Brogan, C.C. Chapman, Christopher S. Penn, Julien Smith and myself (with the exception of Hugh McGuire) - converged in New York City for the Web 2.0 Expo (and Web 2.Open). Wednesday night after dinner, we all met up at the Roger Smith Hotel (in Julien's chambers) and recorded the following rambles, tangents, swear words and non-relevant-to-marketing conversations. That being said, it got interesting, we wavered, we switched, we debated and we made a ton of inside jokes. In the end, the conversation looks at the audience, the new media and those swimming in the deep end of it all. Enjoy the conversation (but keep in mind this is not work safe)... Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast - Episode #178 - Host: Mitch Joel. Running time: 54:12. Penn - The Financial Aid Podcast - Marketing Over Coffee. Julien Smith - In Over Your Head - Co-author of Trust Agents. Not present: Hugh McGuire - LibriVox - The Book Oven. Our live studio audience: Whitney Hoffman and Chel Pixie. Recorded live at the Roger Smith Hotel during Web 2.0 Expo and Web 2.Open. Breaking news: this Podcast is not work safe. A little chat about Web 2.0 Expo. A brief discussion about Douglas Rushkoff and economies beyond money. The power of hashtags from Baratunde Thurston. The great Twitter controversy of Web 2.0 Expo. Are the people who are tweeting up-staging the speakers? Everything is meta. Do you measure up? The value of the individual tweet. It's all about being a part of the audience. If we don't tangent, what do we have? Talking about music is like dancing about architecture. Feeding systems. Red pill - blue pill... how we navigate the system. Christopher S. Penn whips out a knife (not kidding). Is Twitter getting tired? Chris Brogan and his Twitter Mafia. Twitter sensitivity - in terms of filling the Twitter stream. Thoughts around how well Seth Godin manages his time, effort and value delivered. The power of leverage. Guy Kawasaki and how he manages Twitter. Robert Scoble still thinks that Brogan is doing Twitter wrong. The Serendipity Engine. Awkward moments... they're important to the authenticity of this show. Networks have noise (deal with it). What is community? (we take a shot at this question). Equality of opportunity and equality of results. Communities need leaders. The Internet is not about equals... nor is communities. Part 1 the new dial toneMarc Ostrick and Michael Sean Wright set out to document a day at Blog World Expo in Las Vegas. Ostrick, Co-Founder of eGuiders teamed up with fellow documentarian Wright, founder of nicefishfilms, to take the pulse of what some are calling the new media revolution . The gathering of bloggers, lifestreamers and seasoned journalists provided an opportunity to dialog with media producers from around the world. Ostrick and Wright attempted to push the limits of the current technology, shooting with Kodak Zi8 and Flip Ultra HD cameras. The short doc is part of the conversation focused on the shifting landscape of media. The new dial tone is a dialog among media producers, technologists and bloggers who are looking to express their ideas into the stream of the real-time web. The filmmakers shadowed Robert Scoble, early technology blogger-evangelist as he interacted with the influencers in social media. Social media is the new dial tone, according to author Chris Brogan.
