The First 'Iron Man 2' Poster Appears!

The First 'Iron Man 2' Poster Appears!

from Cinematical on November 30, 2009

Marvel Studios, Paramount and Jon Favreau have given you an early Christmas present. Yahoo! Movies has debuted the first poster for Iron Man 2, and as cheesy as it is to go nuts over marketing, it's an awfully cool poster. It's their exclusive, so you'll have to click the picture to see the entire thing, but I've given you a tiny preview above. The best part? Those of us who didn't get to see the pants-wetting footage at Comic-Con finally get a glimpse at War Machine! There's something deliciously geeky about the buddy cop stylings of this poster. I could live quite comfortably in a world where Iron Man 2 was something akin to a super-suited Lethal Weapon, couldn't you? Of course, as nice as the poster is, it's no substitute for seeing these guys actually take flight. Faverau has hinted via Twitter that we might see the first Iron Man 2 trailer this Christmas, and that it'll be attached to that other Robert Downey Jr. franchise, Sherlock Holmes. Maybe if you're very good boys and girls, Santa will grant your wish, and we'll get it a few days before Holmes hits theaters. I can't think of a more festive way to ring in the holidays than with a flying hero of red and gold. Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Retire?

Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Retire?

from Cinematical on November 19, 2009

Retire. I am starting to hate that word in Hollywood. Most of the time it doesn't mean what it suggests. Retirement means ending work, maybe taking on a side gig if you really need to or are really bored, but for the most part, it's ending life in the workforce and enjoying a life of leisure. In cinema, however, it seems to be anyone who is taking a break from the biz. Luc Besson's "retired," as is Sean Connery. Now ... Robert Downey Jr.? The ever popular actor has told Entertainment Weekly that he might quit acting. "I've never had it this good -- this is my day in the sun -- and I certainly don't want to look a gift horse in the molars. But [my wife] Susan and I want to begin to be in our lives as much as we are in our jobs. I'd love just to sit here and say, 'What movie's playing tonight?' I'd love to finish the new book about D-day I'm reading. I love painting, I love music." And if you can get through that without your gut falling out in dread: "But here's the thing: I can only be a guy on a call sheet probably, I don't know, maybe a couple more times. It's something I'm so grateful to have in my palm, and yet I already see its inevitable decay." He does leave room for hope by saying: "If Sherlock Holmes performs well, I could be busy for the next 5 or 7 or 10 years." But who knows whether that's just him appeasing potential fan backlash, dread at the thought of never catching a break, feeling uncertain in his career, or some other reason altogether. But if it's true and does happen, I shudder to think of Hollywood without his talent.Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Newsstand Permalink | Email this | Comments

Click image below to view full poster Cinematical has just received this exclusive new poster for Sherlock Holmes, due in theaters on Christmas Day. No more reserved stuffiness for this detective -- there's not a magnifying glass and classic hat in sight! Talk about a poster that boils the feel of a film down to one snazzy collection of images. Color us not surprised -- Robert Downey Jr.'s confident smirk alone is enough to tantalize, but there's also Jude Law with the campy and inquisitive Watson brow and a background of images ranging from a bottle of poison (cyanide, not any sort of booze) to faded glimpses of Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong. As the trailer and now this poster attest, Downey Jr. and Law are itching for roguish fun of a whole new flavor. Set in 1891, Guy Ritchie's take on the famous detective finds Holmes and Watson battling an evil cult leader named Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), whose devilish schemes could give the crime-fighting duo their toughest challenge yet. "Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country" (read the full synopsis after the jump). Of course, with a depravity that knows no bounds as he brawls and flirts his way to the truth. Sounds like the perfect roguish antidote to sappy holiday fare, doesn't it? 'Iron Man 2' Returns with More Set Video and Interviews

'Iron Man 2' Returns with More Set Video and Interviews

from Cinematical on October 14, 2009

"In this case, he is Iron Man, we know the characters, we know the tone, we know the rules, the way the world works ... and now we get to play." Jon Favreau on Iron Man 2. A brand new set video that's definitely not as annoying as those flashy Entertainment Tonight videos has arrived online via France's Canal Plus, and though the intro is in French, the rest of it -- which includes some never-before-seen set footage and interviews with Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. -- is definitely worth a watch. As you can see from the image above -- which shows Scarlett Johansson wearing Iron Man's repulsor glove -- the video teases us with a little more Black Widow action. Not only do we get that brief shot, but we also catch a glimpse of Johansson (as Black Widow?) walking away from an explosion, as well as taking part in some pretty cool stunt work. Instead of ET's set video on the racetrack, this one takes us inside Tony Stark's workshop, where Stark is attempting (and failing) to build a giant particle accelerator that wraps around and up through his driveway. Says Downey Jr, "I'd be surprised if you weren't surprised." Following that up, Favreau also notes how, historically, the second superhero movie usually rocks. "In comedies, number two is bad because you do the same story again. But with a superhero movie, number two is easier and better. And usually, if you look at most superhero movies, two is better than one. Three is usually not as good as two or one, so that becomes scary because you don't want to repeat yourself." Watch the video after the jump. Diablo Cody Writing Hugh Hefner Biopic?

Diablo Cody Writing Hugh Hefner Biopic?

from Cinematical on September 25, 2009
Duration: 0
Though it really could mean anything, because people in Hollywood take meetings with other people in Hollywood every single day (it's what they do, and it keeps them alive), we found it rather interesting to learn that Diablo Cody met with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner yesterday to talk about that long-delayed Brian Grazer-produced Playboy flick that may or may not star either Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr. or someone else entirely, and may or may not be directed by Brett Ratner. We know this because of Hefner's Twitter account, where yesterday afternoon he tweeted the following: "Meeting with Diablo Cody to talk about the Brian Grazer Playboy film today." Cody, however, kept hush hush about the meeting on Twitter, and Hefner never followed up to tell his followers how the meeting went. That said, knowing that he's meeting with writers means they're either looking for a brand new script or a rewrite of what already exists. Last time anything official hit regarding this project, it was back in 2007 when John Hoffman signed on to pen the script, with Ratner attached to direct. Cody seems like an odd choice for a screenwriter, though, especially since she seems to dig projects that are chick-centric (then again, I guess any film about the life of Hugh Hefner would include plenty of female, um, parts). What could she possibly add to the project, other than a whole bunch of quirky, high school hipster-speak? Seems like an odd pairing ... what do you think this is all about? Brad Pitt Might Be Villainous Moriarty in 'Sherlock' Sequel

Brad Pitt Might Be Villainous Moriarty in 'Sherlock' Sequel

from Cinematical on September 22, 2009
Duration: 0
Earlier this summer, reshoot rumors were thick around Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. One of the more believable ones was that Brad Pitt was stepping in to make an appearance as Moriarty, though it was clouded in so much "Pitt must save Ritchie!" hyperbole that it was almost impossible to believe. As always, there seems to have been some truth to the tabloid rumors, because The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros is already prepping more Holmes, and Pitt is in talks to play the detective's legendary adversary, Moriarty. While neither Ritchie, Pitt, or producer Joel Silver will comment on whether Pitt already makes a shadowy appearance in the upcoming film. Those who have read the script say that Moriarty does appear, but is all mysterious and silhouetted, and it's impossible to see who he really is. As Pitt debates whether or not he wants to pit brainpower and martial arts against the elementary Robert Downey Jr., the studio has brought on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the team behind their Justice League: Mortal project to pen the script. Though nothing is official yet, THR notes "much of the talent," notably Downey, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, and Ritchie are expected to return. (Mark Strong isn't mentioned. Spoiler or no surprise?) It's worth noting that if Pitt signs on and the line-up remains as is, there's only one native Brit in the entire cast of this very English classic. Grunge Rock ; "Racers" Greenhouse Effect Mixtape 1988 - Phil Keegan Guitar. South Bay Legends (Music).

Guitarist Phil Keegan put his own trademark stamp on "Fuzz Rock" or "Grunge" deep in the mid 1980's with muddy brazen tracks like "Precarious" and 1988's "Racers". "Six Feet Under" would be a tighter and more refined G.e. Sound as the band later evolved in March 1989 with "The Four Song E.p." Drummer Clark Hagins sang the Lead vocals directly from the drumkit ! Hagins was a great drummer who hit like a mean Keith Moon but was an even better Lead singer with vocals somewhere between David Bowie, Robert Plant, and Iggy Pop !! Bassist Rick Carmody is probobly the most 'well known' member of G.e. internationally what with his red hair and very weird 'un-rocklike' demeanor ,....The Greenhouse Effect Would explode on the internet in 2006 and 2007 as one of the first alternative rock bands to really capitalize upon the new 'video boom era"..........Tracks like 1991's "Brandy" and "Black or White Song" would make the trio internationally known and top downloaded. Millions of people around the world have a Greenhouse Effect song in their ipod !! GoogleVideoCom declared G.e. as one of their most watched bands of 2008 with "Brandy"......Thousands of Internet Radios such as Jango have picked up G.e. Songs .....Says Keegan; "We started out playing where ever we could,...at the end of every gig, Hagins would smash all his drums,..I know that seems cliche - but NOBODY was doing THAT in 89' ,..it was all cheesey glam metal then ,..we were true originators,....Hagins would take our tapes and pictures of the band to the Major Labels,...not just to Indie ones,...We had big dreams to be the biggest rock band in the world and 'grunge' was the way we were going to do it - our uniqueness,... ,..Well , unfortunately,..it never happened,..after I left,..I think the band went downhill,....they couldn't get a record contract,....Who knows what would have happened with G.e. if I was still around with it !!" - "Other bands moved in and capitalized with our ideas,...if Hagins says that labels like Geffen took his vision then it might be true,..We went to Geffen in 1988 and Gary Gersh,..because that band Asia with Steve Howe from Yes was on Geffen,..and Steve Howe is one of my favorite Guitarists !! We got Great reviews in Flipside and all kinds of indie rock magazines,..everybody raved about us,..and we were the shit live,..when we played at Wilson park,..we would play with like 6 or 7 other bands and it didn't matter who was on the bill,..we would crush em !! I made damn sure of it " ----- "Waiting for your Love to fail!" explodes with anger and passion in May 1990 and the "Immorally Moral" three Song E.p. cassette. Producer Sound Engineer Bill Krodel pulls every ounce of angery energy from the band at Redondo Beach's Don Dokken owned Pendragon Studios. Says Clark Hagins; "Working with Bill Krodel at the console was amazing,..the man is a South Bay legend,..he 'made' us great,...We took things all to new levels when he recorded us,...even though he was on the phone most of the time (Laughs). Krodel died of a rare disease in September 2008 which shook the band and Hagins in particular. "I miss my friend,..I miss the guy who brought out the maturity in G.e." "When 'Waiting' was being recorded,..I was going through some weird tramatic shit - some of it just invented by me,..and some of it all too real,..my sister had just died,..and we felt that maybe she was murdered ,..on the island of Bali in the Far East,...A girl who I really fancied had gotten pregnant and gotten married,...it was the most devestating shit that I ever went through and I wish THAT on nobody ,..no enemy is that bad !! I just got into some serious drinking spells then,...Then in late 91'...grunge music exploded,..but it didn't include ME - OR FLIPPER,..we weren't there as,..far lesser bands were being made famous,..and alot of it because of their simple stupid left wing political biases,...their beliefs which co-insided with Liberal A & R's and Hollywood,..it sucked man,..it was a bummer,..and now we're too old,..we can't get it back,..."
