Now that most of us acquire our music online these days, radio DJs don't have the same sway as taste-makers that they used to. But in the '70s, the final word in rock music was Rodney Bigenheimer. In George Hickenlooper's 2003 documentary about the infamous DJ and rock music icon, Mayor of Sunset Strip, we are shown Bigenheimer as an awkward and strange little fellow who, in the end, did it all for the music. Now, thanks to the nice folks at SlashControl you can now watch the documentary as one of their collection of (pretty awesome) free movies. You wouldn't know it to look at him, but Bigenheimer was one of the biggest names in the rock music scene, and was credited with helping to break bands like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Nirvana, and even Coldplay. Bigenheimer has been relegated to the 'graveyard shift' these days at KROQ, but considering that Hickenlooper was able to get appearances from some of the biggest names in rock (everyone from Mick Jagger to Rob Zombie) you can't deny Bigenheimer still has some clout. Hickenlooper's film is more than just a walk down music history lane. It also manages to show you someone who truly loves the music, and maybe it's a little sad that it never quite loved him back. But this documentary reminds us that his legend lives on -- you might even remember a certain homage to Bigenheimer in Cameron Crowe's rock n' roll tale, Almost Famous when he works in one of Rodney's famous quotes "It's all happening!", and during the 'Mayor's' reign at KROQ, it really was... Rock Band Celebrating Halloween with Zombies and Wolves

I lied. Rock Band is not celebrating Halloween with wolves but with Wolfmother in their newest DLC releases, due out next week on the 27th (aren t I funny?). MTV Games and Harmonix are also bringing Rob Zombie, Liz Phair, and Morningwood to join the Aussie rockers. I m not sure how Liz Phair and Morningwood fit into Halloween, but I doubt Rock Band song-a-philes will really complain about more DLC tracks. Rob Zombie is bringing 2 tracks from his debut solo album Hellbilly Deluxe ( Dragula, Superbeast ) and one from his newest album, Hellbilly Deluxe 2 ( Burn ). Good luck on the vocals there, gamers. Wolfmother will be howling in 5 tracks with New Moon Rising, Pilgrim, Sundial, White Unicorn, and Woman. Outside of the Halloween festivities is Liz Phair s Rock Me and Morningwood s Sugarbaby and Best of Me. Rounding out the group are two Rock Band Unplugged Tracks, Sonic Youth s Kool Thing and Steely Dan s My Old School, set for a October 29th release. These tracks will be available for purchase as “Rob Zombie Pack 01,” “Wolfmother Pack 01” and as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system and as individual tracks on Wii. Pricing: $1.99 USD (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) per track $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for “Rob Zombie Pack 01” $8.49 (680 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for “Wolfmother Pack 01” $2.00 USD (200 Wii Points) per track $1.99 per track on the PSP system Possibly Related Posts:Queen Ten Pack Regaling Rock Band Next WeekThe Raconteurs to Entertain Rock Band DLC Next WeekMinistry invades Rock BandAlice in Chains and Breaking Benjamin Join Rock Band Next WeekBrutal Legend will be in Rock Band Next Week

Halloween Preview + Review: Zombie Does Carpenter

It's a tricky thing, doing a remake of a Hollywood Classic... but with a legion of fans all his own, Rob Zombie has the cult-power to do Halloween Remake with a certain degree of comfort that his audience will come out and support it. We're not specifically that audience, but we're both pretty familiar with the Halloween mythos. Familiar enough to think that a revisitation of John Carpenter's famous character treads on very hallowed ground indeed... what did we make of it? Have a look. ~Matt + Nat Ranked 3.60 / 5 | 0 views | 0 comments Click here to watch the video (14:59) Submitted By: Babelgum Tags: Babelgum Film Horror Review Scenes Exclusive Preview Remake Halloween Slasher Mcdowell Malcolm Reimagining Anastasia Tubanos Matthew Campagna Bsgcast Matt + Nat Your Geek News Rob Zombie Revisitation Categories: Entertainment
