The word "Change" has been used so much lately that it often seems almost meaningless. What's change really? Is it having Barack Obama in the White House, talking about withdrawing from Iraq, a stimulus bill that spends some federal dollars on infrastructure? David Harvey, author of A Brief History of Neoliberalism , and Alexander Cockburn, author of End Times: The Death of the Fourth Estate, don't think small when it comes to change. They aren't afraid to think about significant, even radical changes to the social order we've grown so used to, whether it's requiring full employment, reimagining urban living, or repudiating credit card debt and abolishing Wall Street speculation. Cockburn and Harvey joined Laura for an event at CUNY's Center for Place, Culture & Politics, and we bring you part of that discussion today.

The Sure Cure for a Sinking Spirit

Show Notes: In this podcast, Guy Finley talks about how resistance to any negative state such as anger, anxiety, or fear does not help diminish the state, but instead actually causes the state to gain mass and strengthens the illusion that it has any authority. Highlights: Our spirit is not meant to sink. At any given moment, we can tell what we are living from by the way we see the world around us. We are not meant to live with a heavy heart, but at present we do not know what else to do. There is no denying the fact that, at times, life can weigh heavily upon our hearts and minds, but we can remain aware of the heaviness instead of consenting to live under it. But as we are now, we do not really want to be conscious our heavy, sinking feeling when we wake up in the morning or whenever that state happens to be present. And yet that sinking feeling is there whether we are aware of it or not. There is an alternative to resisting the way that you feel. Resisting how you feel does not change anything about the way you feel. Resisting does not prove that you are different from the feeling that you have. Resistance to a heavy heart is how that state keeps itself in place and adds mass to itself. Anything that is resisted gains mass. The more that you resist a sinking feeling by coming up with plans to make yourself feel better, the more you sink. But knowing what happens to you when you resist a negative state, and then acting on what you know is a whole other story. As a true aspirant, you need to be awake to yourself more often so that you can begin to see with greater and greater clarity the truth of yourself, instead of agreeing with the parts of yourself that do not want to be what you are. Let God Take You From You
from Be Unstoppable: The Essential Laws of Fearless Living on November 17, 2009

Show Notes: In this podcast, Guy Finley talks about the spiritual necessity of being alone in order to discover within yourself the one thing in the universe that you can always count on. Highlights: Every once in a great while you get a very quick glimpse of the fact that you are spiritually alone. How much more alone can a human being be than when all of the psychological props are pulled out from under him or her? Every shattered dream and every crisis brings us back to that moment in which we realize that inwardly we are alone, with nothing and no one to lean on. We must see the fact that one day our physical bodies will expire -- it's just a fact. Everything will disappear in the stream of passing time. But we resist this fact with all of our might, and as a result we miss the realization that God is trying to give us about the necessity of being alone. We think that we can hide from something that we don't want to see about ourselves, but that is impossible. How can we hide from something unless we have already seen it as being a fact? It is only when you are really alone that you are not alone in the truest sense. Spiritually speaking, we live with the mistaken idea that we have something outside of ourselves that we can count on. There is only one thing that can be counted on, and it is only found when we are truly alone, with ourselves and within ourselves. We deliberately keep ourselves so insanely busy in order to avoid seeing this inevitable need for silence and solitude. Do you really think that you can put off being alone? Something within you thinks it can. In those moments when life takes something from you that you wrongly value, work to realize that you do not have to replace it with yet another empty activity. This video was made for my University interview. For anybody who dosn't know, you have to provide a video that shows clips of the films you've made, and usually you have a 5 minute time limit to do it all in (varies depending which Uni you've applied for though). So with over 100 videos under our belt, it was of course difficult trying to narrow down what clips should be showcased, and we went with the clips that we believe show my progression as a film maker, it's basically like watching the history of FOW Pictures in 5 minutes.Any contructive critism is very much appreciated! The clips we used were from: -Guitar Zero -Broken Adrenaline -Watching The Famous -MCW Live Event -Liberty - Trailer -Shriek Watch Episode 9: Caspa Balboa (COMING SOON!) -Not My Time -Resistance: Fall Of Man Music Video -The Imtimidation Game -Rise Today (COMING SOON!)http://fowpictures.co.cc http://www.metacafe.com/f/channels/FOWPictures http://www.facebook.com/pages/FOW-Pictures/77970645872 http://fowpics.blogspot.com/ http://myspace.com/fowwepics
