http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/marchpoint/ In the late 1950s, two oil refineries were built on March Point, an area that was once part of the Swinomish Reservation by treaty. MARCH POINT tells the story of three boys from the Swinomish Indian Tribe who make a movie about the destruction the refineries have wrought in their community. In this clip, Swinomish tribe leader Brian Cladoosby worries that a nearby oil refinery is polluting tribal lands and impacting the community's health. MARCH POINT premieres Tuesday, November 18 on INDEPENDENT LENS, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Terrence Howard, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide. Visit the Web site for more: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/marchpoint/

Water Technology & the Barnett Shale

Water Technology & the Barnett Shale

from dgjones on June 10, 2008
Duration: 1821
World Energy Television continues its series on water technology with a look at the use of water in natural gas recovery. An important environmental and economic concern for natural gas producers is obtaining water, disposing of it, and recycling the water used in resource plays. Industry experts, including Bill Stevens, executive vice president with TEAP; Brent Halldorson, COO of Aqua-Pure; Andree Griffin, the Forth Worth Basin geology manager for XTO Energy; Mark Whitley, senior vice president of Range Resource Corp. and Dr. Roberts Mace, director of groundwater resources for the Texas Water Development Board, visit WETV s studios to examine the technology that makes water a viable new tool in production and manufacturing and to address issues of efficiency. Although water is often mentioned in the context of wells, in fact only 10 percent of the total water used is for drilling, while the remaining 90 percent is involved in fracing, or injection into a natural gas well. This technology is more fully explained on WETV s new episode on water technology, as are the development of resource plays, evolutionary vs. revolutionary changes, and projections on water usage, especially concerning fracing and the Barnett Shale.

World Energy Television Presents: Pompano

World Energy Television Presents: Pompano

from dgjones on March 20, 2008
Duration: 190
Nothing is more exciting in this industry than seeing first hand the offshore operations in the hunt for Oil and Gas, I am Richard Loomis, CEO of World Energy Magazine and today we are heading out to see a real "field of dreams". Located approximately 90 miles southwest of Houston and 30 miles east of Port O'Connor, Texas. Pompano sits seven miles off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico in approximately 55 feet of water. The field was originally developed by a local independent, Zapata, in the late 1980s. In its heyday, Pompano produced more than 120 billion cubic feet of gas. It was shut in and all but forgotten in the early 1990s. The trend that includes Pompano produced more than 850 billion cubic feet before being passed over by the majors as they headed toward deep water. However, Pompano itself survived, with its original platform and pipelines intact, through two hurricanes and a number of different owners. Now Buccaneer Energy, an ASX listed company under the leadership of Cutis Burton and Elixir, another ASX listed company under the leadership of Jon Stuart have teamed together with operator Ana Texas to redevelop this field. Recently Hercules offshore, the fourth largest jack up company in the world and a preferred provider of Buccaneer moved rig number 152 onto the site to commence drilling. The 152 is a bethlaham style jackup and able to operate in depths upto 150 feet and drill down to 20,000 ft. Today we are drilling down to 7,000 feet in the hunt for Natural gas. In record time the dream that is the Pompano Project has come to life. After two weeks of drilling the first of 5 wells was complete and the rig moved on to begin drilling the second well in the program. With the flow lines in place and the platform refurbishment complete the project is ready to begin producing natural gas for the energy hungry United States. We look forward to seeing more great things from the Buccaneer Team and their partners Elixir and Ana Texas
