For the 72-year-old senator who has faced cancer, the selection of a vice president was a matter of utmost seriousness and national importance. In selecting Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, a woman who a year and a half ago was the mayor of a city of 8,500 people, and who is now the freshman governor of a state with one-fourth the population of the San Diego metropolitan area, Senator John McCain has put no less than the security of the United States in peril. In his first presidential decision, Senator John McCain did not put country first. At a time of grave international threat, Senator McCain took a reckless and impulsive gamble in order to make a shallow political statement.

"Heaven" is a power ballad written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and was first released in 1983 on the soundtrack album for "A Night In Heaven", a film about a male stripper. Adams refused to release the song in conjunction with the film and waited to re-release it in 1984 on his own album Reckless. The song was finally released in 1985 as a single with the song "Diana" on the b-side. The single became Adams' first number-one on the United States Billboard Hot 100. It reached number thirty-eight in the UK Singles Chart that year. The track featured Journey drummer Steve Smith on drums and was recorded in NYC during a day off in the middle of a tour they were doing together. The music video portrays Adams singing in an auditorium, with giant television sets portraying the audience and band. Near the end of the music video, all the screens turn to static, and Adams is shown waking up from a dream, sleeping in a sleeping bag in front of a television, which is showing static. Taking the "scare them straight" approach, footage of bad car accidents from the streets of Oakland, California, and scenarios depicted in a scaled-down model city, graphically illustrates accidents and documents the carnage left behind. Though primarily about how pedestrians must be careful, the film also implicates drivers and their responsibility to drive safely. "Here is death. Raw and ugly death!" the narrator fiendishly intones. The remedies for these horrors are, as one would expect, safe driving habits, defensive driving, and pedestrian safety tips. These gruesome car accident stories are not entirely dated and without merit in and of themselves: road traffic accidents are a horrific killer every year. When You're a Pedestrian is good for a laugh and a reminder of the need for pedestrian and driver responsibility.
