She stomped all the way down to the main office. Running into Joe at lunch had left her in a horrible mood. She wondered what class he had... Oh who cares! Caroline knocked before entering Mr. Grovis' office. "Good afternoon Mr. Grovis," she smiled. "How are you?" "I'm fine, Caroline. Thank you," he answered. "Please take a seat." Mr. Grovis' face held a look of remorse. Caroline knew that something wasn't right. "So why did you call me down here, sir?" "I-uh... we should wait 'til your father gets here." "M-My f-father?" "Yes Mr. Zolson. I called him a few minutes ago and he said he'd be over soon," Mr Grovis explained. Caroline said nothing. How could she? Her father... in her school... a disaster... This was gonna be bad. She was shaking and she felt dizzy. What was going on here? Why would Mr. Grovis need to call her father? "Caroline, this is about your musical abilities," he continued. "Or... lack thereof." "Oh," Caroline laughed. "Didn't we already discuss this? We agreed that I don't take music next year and concentrate on my art." "Yes, about that—" "Mr. Grovis, Caroline's father is here; Mr. Harold Zolson," the secretary called. "Oh good. Send him in please," Mr. Grovis requested. He stood up respectfully when her father entered, offering a handshake and a warm smile. Caroline turned red with embarrassment. Could Mr. Grovis tell that Mr. Zolson had knocked back a couple beers before coming here? Caroline could smell the trace of alcohol in his breath from where she was sitting. "Please take a seat Mr. Zolson." "Well if you insist," Caroline's dad said with a goofy smile. Caroline glared at her father, but quickly looked away when she saw that his eyes were bloodshot. He was drunk. Again. She felt like crying. "Well, I've got very unfortunate news," Mr. Grovis began. "Do yah now?" Harold slurred. "Yes, I'm afraid... we're going to have to transfer Caroline to Birchmount... I apologize for the inconvenience." Caroline was too shocked to speak or move, and fortunately her father was too drunk to do either also. Caroline was pretty sure he had no idea what Mr. Grovis was talking about. "This school is too full as it is, but Mrs. Cassidy of Birchmount High School has INSISTED that a student of hers be transferred here; to Westville Secondary School. I did all I could to decline her offer but it was a request from the daughter of Mr. Brantos herself, that Nick Jonas be transferred here immediately," Mr Grovis went on. "Hey! I know that kid! Nick Jonas..." Caroline's father muttered. Mr. Brantos... Juliet Brantos! Nick Jonas?! What was going on here? What did any of it have to do with Caroline? What had Juliet done? Caroline felt like screaming. "Caroline, you received the lowest music mark of all the sophomores this year," Mr. Grovis explained. "I'm sorry, but I have no choice, the School Board has asked that you be transferred in exchange for Nick." "B-But I'm sure there's a freshman that got a lower mark then me! I spoke to her myself. Why—" "Nick is a sophomore Caroline, not a freshman. I'm sorry," he sighed. "You already said that," she snapped. "It doesn't really help does it?" She couldn't stop herself; she was crying. Mr. Zolson stood up quickly, knocking back his chair. "What have you done to my daughter!" he barked. "Why is she crying?!" "Mr. Zolson, please calm down..." Mr. Grovis said, obviously alarmed by his sudden outburst. "Dad, stop please." Caroline begged between sobs. "It's not Mr. Grovis' fault." "Yeah, well—" Harold muttered walking towards a frightened Mr. Grovis. "Dad," Caroline shrieked. "Stop this! Stop drinking! Stop everything!" Both men froze and turned towards her. "You, dad. You've got a problem. It's not just the drinking anymore. It IS YOU. It's taken over your life. It's hurting me like it hurt mom. That's why she killed herself. You've got to stop dad." And he started crying, huge sobs. At the sight of her father crying, Caroline cried even harder. It was the first time she'd ever said it aloud; her mother killed herself. Mr. Grovis silently slipped out of the room, giving the two some privacy. After some time they stopped sobbing and wiped their tears. Mr. Zolson pulled Caroline in and hugged her protectively. "I'm so sorry Caroline, so sorry. You'll always be my little girl, I love you." And they were crying all over again. Eventually they ran out of tears, and left the office. Both father and daughter apologized to Mr. Grovis for alarming him. He said it was gonna be alright. And Caroline knew Mr. Grovis was right, about everything. Here's my submission into a contest/competition I stumbled upon online. It's for Denny's. They're looking for the best Barack and McCain impersonators. The two winner's will recieve breakfast till 2012 at Denny's hehehe. Also the winner may be ask to may an appearance at their candidates convention city with all expenses paid. Pretty cool. PREMISE OF THE VIDEO: They asked applicants to submit a thirty (30) second video comparing Real Breakfast (Denny's) to Fake Breakfast (competition)....simple enough , huh? Breakfast till 2012 is great, but if I won and they used this for a national commercial campaign...now THAT would be dope!
