*QUICKTIME *Phone In this edition of the ROCORI City Update, Larry Lahr reminds Cold Spring citizens about the “do’s and don’ts” of Hometown Pride Days garage sale signage. For those of you who missed last weeks city update, Larry discussed some of the events that are coming up next weekend (July 25 & 26th) for Hometown Pride Days. You can also see a full-length feature story on Hometown Pride Days that was sponsored by the planning committee. Rena Weber gives us a very brief update this week about the status of Rockville’s “electronic initiative.” So far so good as there have been no complaints about the council packets being shifted to online instead of paper. The other updates Rena shared are in regards to an informational meeting that will be held later this month about Rockville potentially installing wind turbines. Lastly, the city will be doing nitrate testing for residents who have their own private water wells at the end of August. For more information on the testing feel free to call city hall. Dan Coughlin could not join us this week but he wanted all the citizens of the ROCORI area to know that Richmond is hosting their annual River Lake Days this weekend. You can see a promotional video for River Lake Days that features footage from last years events. We hope you all can make it out and enjoy the festivities.

*QUICKTIME *Phone It's now been over 3 years since Duane Kuss, creator/inventor/publisher of the DigElog Network began an experiment with publishing videos to an online blog. It was during the summer of 2005, Duane first created his own personal video blog called, My Stories Of Life Since that time the DigElog Network has published over 1,600 video stories online. This story has us joining the Kuss family as they embark on a visit to Walnut Grove, MN. The story is unique from a technical perspective in that Duane incorporates the use of video off of a digital still camera as a part of your Walnut Grove online experience. Even the footage you'll see here of the community play held each evening during the summer was captured using the same digital still camera. Here's how the story was titled back on July 13th, 2005 Laura Ingalls Wilder lived 1.5 miles north of Walnut Grove along the banks of Plum Creek from 1874 to 1876. Charles and Caroline Ingalls settled on the property in May 1874 declaring their intent to homestead it. Laura later in life would write a series of books that included, On the Banks of Plum Creek . Take a mini video journey back into the life and story of Laura Ingalls Wilder. My lovely wife Bette read the book to the rest of the family before we headed down to Walnut Grove and the Wilder Pageant . This became a wonderous step back in time for the entire family.

Waterball is a friendly competition where opposing fire departments line up across one another and try to push a basketball that is hung from a cable across to their opponents side. It is similar to tug-o-war but with hoses. In this story you’ll also hear some news about the upcoming waterball competition during Hometown Pride Days as well as the Firefighters fundraiser concert at the Gluek Distribution Center. ROCKVILLE Rena Weber tells us about a new tactic that the Rockville City Council is employing to help cut down city spending. The City Council Packets are now online and you can view those packets @ www.rockvillecity.org. This was done in an effort to cut down on delivery spending (specifically gasoline) as well as move the city in a more “virtual” direction where as in the future, all city documents will be online. *QUICKTIME *Phone In their third match-up of the Section Playoffs, the Spartans once again started out strong against the Albany Huskies. They looked to capitalize early on poor fielding by the Albany defense. However, in the fourth inning Luke Vossen’s arm began to wear out after a long playoff road that included one ten inning victory. Ultimately, the Spartans just ran out of gas as they lost to the Huskies in this Section Final. Although it was up and down, the Spartans managed to finish the season strong, and hopefully their finish can be a building block for the players that are returning next year. ***************************************** Special thanks to Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union who sponsored this story. Dobry den! (Good day!) My apologies for taking so long to send you another update. Things have been very busy for both the boys and the staff. The Festival has been in full swing and the final concert in Dvorak Hall is tonight. The boys continue to receive compliments from Festival staff and the other conductors – compliments about their performance, behaviour, camaraderie and openness to interacting with boys from other choirs. Here’s a little run-down of what we’ve done recently: Thursday: In the morning the boys had their solo concert performance and received wonderful reviews, especially about Mi’kmaq Honour Song. They then spent the afternoon in Prague. Unfortunately the weather was uncooperative, but they made do. The security guards at St. Vitus Cathedral, in the middle of the Prague Castle allowed the boys to stay in the church during the huge rainstorm and the boys sang in the church, entertaining other tourists visiting the church at that time. They also visited the Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge. The rain took away some of our shopping time, but we did end up going into a mall where many of the boys bought Czech soccer jerseys. Friday: The first gala Festival Concert in Dvorak Hall. The boys performed impressively, and in fact one of our own boys (Charlie Slivnik) began the entire concert with a solo of Bob Chilcott’s “Dona Nobis Pacem”. It was an incredibly hectic day, but the boys did so well. They were rewarded at the end with a giant picnic, and although the 4th of July fireworks were cancelled due to weather, the boys played soccer at night and had a good time. Saturday: This was a completely free day. We started the day playing the Estonians in soccer (sadly, we were humiliated, 7-3, but it was still fun). The afternoon consisted of swimming in the amazing AquaCenter and having a pizza dinner at the SportCafe. Today is the final festival concert and you can listen to it LIVE on Czech Radio. The concert is at 5:00pm CEST (10:00am in Minnesota). Go to: http://www.rozhlas.cz/zive/#vltava MISSED IT LIVE... download the entire 2 hour program (MP3 - 160 mb file ) Download StJohnsBoysChoirCzech.mp3 As we are heading into the mountains tomorrow, we will likely not get another chance to send you an update, so I hope you get a chance to listen to the concert and we look forward to seeing you all back in Minnesota VERY early on Thursday morning! Na shledanou! (Goodbye!) _________________ André Heywood Artistic Director, The St. John's Boys' Choir

*QUICKTIME *Phone Folks, it’s that time of year again. The weather is gorgeous and the boat’s been out of storage now for the last month. As the family and friends come into our gorgeous State, it’s important to remember a few safety items. In this story, our three city administrators discuss some issues regarding the 4th of July and what is going on in the ROCORI area. The subject that came up most in this story is the use of common sense. When on the lake or just out shooting some bottle rockets, please use good judgment and common sense. This is a time to celebrate our independence, not make a trip to the emergency room. DigElog ROCORI would like to wish everyone out there a safe and happy 4th of July. ************************************ Consumer Fireworks Information The sale, possession and use of certain non-explosive and non-aerial consumer fireworks is now permitted in Minnesota. Examples of legal fireworks include items such as sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, and novelty items like snakes, and party poppers. A more detailed list is available at the link below. Consumer fireworks may not be used on public property (i.e. parks, roads, alleys, schools, government property, etc.). Purchasers of consumer fireworks must be at least 18 years old and retailers are required to check photo identification of purchasers before selling these products. Explosive and aerial fireworks are prohibited for public sale, possession and use. Prohibited fireworks include firecrackers, bottle rockets, missiles, roman candles, mortars and shells. Consumer Fireworks Fact Sheets, Fireworks Safety, Fireworks Recalls ************************************ VIEWER COMMENTS: Hi Duane - State law does not prohibit the use of legal fireworks within city limits. However state law also does not restrict local ordinances from doing so. I would recommend contacting city hall. if they have no ordinance you are allowed to use the fireworks within the city. If there is an ordinance you would have to comply within the specifics of the ordinance. Happy 4th. Representative Larry Hosch ***************** Duane, I'm not sure of Cold Spring's code... but generally use of fireworks is restricted in city limits... at least the 'illegal' types. Sparklers, snakes and party poppers... go to town with. I doubt anyone will care unless we are in a very dry spell where a fire hazard may be an issue. Dan Richmond City Administrator

*QUICKTIME *Phone The SJBC Concert Choir departed on Friday, June 27 for the Czech Republic where they will represent the United States and the state of Minnesota at the International Boys' and Men's Choral Festival in Hradec Králové and Prague. The boys will travel throughout various regions of the country, exploring the nation's architecture, history and culture. This marks the choirs second trip to the Czech Republic. In this video you'll join the boys and their parents as they say final farewells the day of their departure. The concert tour this year is being lead by the Boys' Choir new concert choir director André-Louis Heywood. André Heywood joined the St. John's Boys' Choir staff a year ago. He has a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Don Wright Faculty of Music of the University of Western Ontario. Another special feature of this video story is a short interview with Br. Paul Richards as he reflects back on the very first trip the Boys' Choir took to Europe. It was for 21 days and included a combination of about 30 boys and numerous parent chaperones. This years tour will include 13 days in the Czech Republic. Friday, June 27 Sunday, June 29 The day began by attending mass at the Church of St. Vitus. The boys were *excellent*, being very attentive even though they didn't understand a single word. They also tried singing along with some of the Czech hymns. They then spent some time rehearsing in the lobby of the hostel, drawing a number of visitors passing by on the street. After lunch was some time for shopping followed by a tour of the town on wood rafts. The boys had a free evening for socialization. Monday, June 30 The boys started the day with a silent breakfast (a tribute to Br. Paul pehaps?) and then set off to Hradec Králové, the site of the Festival. They enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Duran restaurant and then headed into their venue rehearsal at Holy Spirit Cathedral, a 700-year old church in the Old Town square. The boys had a great rehearsal and then spent some time settling into their dorms and having dinner. They then attended the opening ceremonies of the festival, featuring a cameo performance by each choir. The boys were particularly impressed with Boni Pueri, the host choir, and with the American Boychoir who they will sing with in November. Tomorrow begin the long days of festival rehearsals!

*QUICKTIME *Phone In this version of the ROCORI Update, Rena Weber tells us about some complaints that the city has received in regards to Eagle Park. The first subject she addresses relates to an editorial that suggested there were no more eagles in Eagle Park. This is completely false, and just last week, DigElog ROCORI witnessed multiple eagles flying over the park. In fact, you can see them in this story! Another issue that the city has received complaints about is the growth of weeds in the Eagle Park prairie. The city asks that you please be patient with the land restoration project and that this issue will be taken care of. Lastly, for those folks that will be in town for the 4th of July, there will be fireworks on both the 3rd and 4th over Pleasant Lake. EAGLE'S NEST IN EAGLE PARK, ROCKVILLE, MN In this story, Larry Lahr has an important announcement about severe weather. The first part of his announcement should provide reassurance to the citizens of Cold Spring because the city has an excellent team of severe weather spotters that are called upon in case of emergency. The second portion of Larry’s message is equally, if not more important and it relates to the severe weather sirens. These sirens are to alert those that are OUTSIDE during severe weather and should NOT be relied upon if you are inside. If you are in your home when severe weather begins to roll into Cold Spring, please tune in to your radio, television or computer for details regarding the storm. LOCAL SPOTTERS WATCH FOR HAZARDOUS WEATHER Lastly, Dan Coughlin has a brief update about the water ban that is still in effect for the city of Richmond. He asks that citizens please continue to conserve water whenever possible for about another two weeks. After that, the ban should be lifted, but until then tune in to DigElog ROCORI for all of your ROCORI area news. ***********************THIS STORY IS SPONSORED BY...*************************** Click Here To Find Out More About The First National Bank Of Cold Spring

ROCORI CITY UPDATE 6.20.08ROCORI CITY UPDATE 6.20.08
from DigElogROCORI
June 19, 2008

*QUICKTIME *Phone In this version of the “ROCORI Update,” you’ll hear from the three city administrators in the Land of ROCORI. In the first segment, Rena Weber tells us about the finishing stages of the Broadway construction project. She also reminds us that if the parking lots of various Rockville public properties are full, please do not park in adjacent residential areas. If the lot is full, you must find parking in designated public parking areas. Larry Lahr tells us about the importance of keeping trees and shrubs properly groomed above city boulevards. It is the homeowners’ responsibilities to make sure that signs are not covered and that commercial trucks are able to pass under hanging branches. Also, if you know a neighbor that may not realize their trees are becoming an issue, please feel free to politely remind them. The city would appreciate as much help as possible on this matter. Lastly, if you have large or hard to reach branches, please contact an arborist to come help take any difficult branches off of your property. In the final installment of the city update, Richmond City Administrator Dan Coughlin asks that the citizens of Richmond be patient in regards to the new water system. There will be more information coming in your next city water bill. He also reminds us that this week the city will be going out on their nuisance inspections so if you have not taken care of some of the junk or debris in your yard, now would be a good time. Lastly, there will be an informational meeting at the Richmond Civic arena on June 19, 2008 to discuss the Main Street construction project. Thanks to all the citizens of each community for tuning in and enjoy the beautiful summer weather.
