Established in the year 1849 by the then Singapore’s Institution Committee, National Museum of Singapore is the oldest museum in the country. There are four national museums in Singapore and this is one among them. The museum got its name as the National Museum in the year 1965. Earlier it was called Raffles Library and Museum. In its early years, the museum was renowned for its zoological and ethnographic collections from South-east Asia. There was an intervening time period from 1993 to March 2006 when this museum was called the Singapore History Museum, but lately it has reverted to its former name. The museum was designed to be the people’s museum. Presently, the major focus of the museum is on the exhibits that pertain to Singapore’s fascinating history, which it showcases in an interesting fashion. The museum underwent refurbishment for three-and-a-half years and it was opened after the renovation on 2nd Dec 2006. On the 8th of Dec in the same year, the Singapore History Gallery was also opened in the museum. Singapore’s President, Sir S R Nathan officially opened the revamped Museum.  Raffles Landing Site: Where Heritage Whispers

The Raffles Landing Site is named after Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, who was the founder of the Singapore city. He not only founded Singapore as a trading post for the British East India Company, but did a lot of development work for the native population of this erstwhile trading post. Raffles Landing Site is the place where this great man is believed to have set foot on the land of Singapore for the first time, in January 1819. The place is located in the vicinity of Boat Quay. Today Raffles Landing Site, which is named after him and is marked by the statue of Sir Raffles, has its surrounding areas dotted with many important buildings and skyscrapers. Initially the place was merely a green patch, but slowly and steadily as the economy of Singapore grew, the area saw stupendous development. This development led to the construction of many important offices, buildings and other establishments in the area.  Parliament House: Singapore’s Power Centre

Singapore’s new Parliament House is a cultural landmark and a public building that houses the Singapore’s Parliament. It has replaced the old Parliament House of Singapore, as the old building was facing space constraints to accommodate the increased numbers of MPs. The new Parliament House is a stately building, which is situated in the Civic District of the Downtown Core, within the central business district of this island-nation. Close to the new Parliament House, there are some other buildings like the Supreme Court’s building and the Raffles Place. The grand construction was made in order to represent stateliness and authority. The building was designed in a contemporary style. The top of the building is in the shape of a prism, which was designed by the former president of Singapore, Late Ong Teng Cheong. This has endowed a modern expression to the traditional dome. The newly formed Parliament House is designed by the Public Works Department, and is not only a place for the parliamentary debates, but even doubles up as a research center.
