Une montagne nature, aux étés verts et bleus, aux hivers d'une blanche sérénité. Une montagne des hommes, que les habitants n'ont pas désertée. Les beaufortains y vivent leur vie de montagnards, invitant le vacancier à faire un bout de chemin avec eux et à partager leur pays. Le Beaufortain a un pouvoir de séduction évident.Depuis Albertville, capitale olympique, une dizaine de kilomètres de route permet d'atteindre le pays. Cette belle transition entre plaine et montagne ménage le suspens. Et lorsque, après le dernier virage, la vallée s'ouvre, on se sent en terrain connu, avec un agréable sentiment de quiétude.Ici, le paysage fait ressortir des souvenirs enfouis. Devant soi, on découvre tout à coup la montagne de son enfance, son rêve de montagne… Celle qu'on dessinait à l'école sans l'avoir vue, celle que la surfréquentation des stations ne permet plus de retrouver.Tout y est : la crête des sommets enneigés dessinant l'horizon, les prés d'un vert intense où paissent les troupeaux, le petit village serré autour de son clocher, accroché à la pente et, partout, les chalets de bois, habitat traditionnel, disséminés sur les flancs de la montagne.Les domaines d'altitude n'ont pas été négligés. Les alpagistes y conduisent toujours leurs troupeaux l'été. Cette pratique n'a pas été abandonnée, car la flore des alpages donne les laits les plus riches et les plus parfumés. C'est là que le Beaufort acquiert toute sa saveur.Tout en Beaufortain est équilibre. Equilibre qui se conjugue avec le dynamisme. Dynamisme des agriculteurs à qui l'on doit ce pays vert, résultat d'un minutieux jardinage de la montagne; dynamisme aussi des habitants qui ont su répondre au développement touristique sans renier leur identité. This New Year, Apryl and I were in Germany conducting a couple of discdog seminars and hanging out with friends. This is the first part of a 2 or three part series about the trip. This particular entry, Sylvester '06, takes place at Marcus and Sabine's place in Northern Germany. Some members of their club, the Crazy Flying Dogs, came up to spend the New Year with us. Nadine, Karsten, Peter, Disi, Alexandra and Niko, and of course Marcus and Sabine shared with us some great food and entertainment. Their dog, Chanel, a sweet little killer that does not play Frisbee, hooked up with a German comedian, Hape for some really funny dog stuff (in German) and Hape then does a segment with David Hasselhoff that was quite funny as well.
