Robert Pattinson Talks 'Breaking Dawn' & 'Unbound Captives'

Good news, Twilight fans. You have the first official news for the third Twilight installment, courtesy of our own Jen Yamato, FearNet and the New Moon junket.* The magically-coiffed Robert Pattinson has confirmed that Breaking Dawn will begin filming in Fall 2010, and that it's penciled into his schedule for next year. Of course, Dawn remains unconfirmed by Summit. The most controversial installment of the Twilight series, rumors swirl that the studio is hesitant to take it to the big screen. If it is made, it seems likely that it could be split into two films a'la Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Personally, I don't see Summit risking the money they'd make on #4, and they'll find a way to steer around the gorier aspects of the book. But now you know when to look for it, though you still have the madness of Eclipse pre-production to get through. Pattinson also dished on the movie I want to mark on my calender (Sorry, I dig boots and spurs more than vampires), a Western called Unbound Captives. The directorial debut of Madeleine Stowe, it stars Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, and Pattinson. The young heartthrob revealed that it's tenatively scheduled to begin shooting in early 2010, and he sounds enthusiastic for a role that'll be miles away from Edward Cullen. "I'm playing a kid who is kidnapped by Comanches when he was four years old, and he is brought up by them. His mother spends her entire life trying to find me and my sister. When she finds us, we can't remember who she is and can't remember anything about the Western culture she grew up in. I speak Comanche the whole movie. You can't really speak more differently from Edward." [Special thanks also goes to Collider who apparently pried the Breaking Dawn date out of Mr. Pattinson]Filed under: Action, Drama, Independent, Romance, New Releases, RumorMonger, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, Remakes and Sequels, Western Permalink | Email this | Comments

After premiering at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom got bounced around like the red-headed stepchild on Summit's slate before landing a haphazard 200-screen release earlier this summer. Now, in what would appear to be an effort to maintain consistency between the difficulty of seeing it on a big screen and watching on your small screen, the crime caper's been made available for rental only since September, until making its retail bow in January... ...and that's a shame, because the presentation -- at least on Blu-ray -- looks and sounds as rich as it ever did theatrically, the extras are plentiful, and the film itself stands as a clever, funny and warm-hearted take on the con man genre, one more often known for its especially detached sense of cool above any sense of character. And no, I'm not just saying all of this because Johnson name-checks yours truly a couple of times on the commentary. "If you choose to do nothing, though, you will continue to do the same thing over and over again." Hypatia (Rachel Weisz), Agora To some, the name Alejandro Amen bar sparks instant interest. But if it does not, let me refresh your memory. In 1997, he wrote (with Mateo Gil) and directed the Spanish film Open Your Eyes -- which North American audiences know better by its ultra-strange U.S. remake Vanilla Sky. 2001 marked his English film premiere, the eerie Nicole Kidman thriller The Others (the only feature Gil hasn't co-written). And then in 2004, he went back to Spanish filmmaking with the Javier Bardem-starring Oscar winner The Sea Inside. Now he's grabbed the likes of Rachel Weisz, Max Minghella, and Oscar Isaac for a film that doesn't journey through facial reconstruction, ghosts, or euthanasia. It's a gorgeous, thought-provoking Roman epic called Agora. The film focuses on one of the most impressive female figures in history - Hypatia, a leading thinker in the Rome-governed Alexandria, considered to be the first notable woman of mathematics. She studied philosophy and astronomy, and both pagan and Christian students from far and wide came together to study under her. "For all men on account of her extraordinary dignity and virtue admired her the more."Filed under: Drama, Theatrical Reviews, Festival Reports, Exhibition, ReligiousContinue reading TIFF Review: Agora Permalink | Email this | Comments
