SMPTE Philadelphia Section - March 2008 Meeting With less than a year to go, DTV confusion reigns in the public arena: cable/satellite delivery vs. OTA, "a new HD set is necessary for DTV", "all set top boxes are HD", etc. The weak federal awareness and education program, coupled with a slow response from some broadcasters, is fueling an issue that becomes larger every day. Pete Putman, President, ROAM Consulting LLC, will talk about issues affecting the OTA viewer: PIDs, channel tables, EPG, aspect ratio, rating data, captioning, antennas, amps, and channel rescanning after 2/17/09. Mr. Putman will also discuss issues for cable subscribers without boxes: sub-channel/definition carriage, in the clear or scrambled, and numbering assignments.
