This stotting impala puts on a show 'telling' the wild dogs she's in good shape and they won't catch her. Another impala wasn't so lucky at the jaws of Jiggy. He called the pups back to feed in their little frenzy. Then it was time out to do a bit of this and that and grooming sessions all round.

The wild dogs had killed a Sharpe's Grysbok but the tiny antelope was hardly going to feed one dog, let alone the whole pack. The last remaining morsel was wanted by all and the owner wasn't left in peace. All the pups hassled the owner and eventually nobody got to eat the last morsel.

Wild dogs have this amazing feeding strategy where the pups always get to feed first and also have the complete power to keep the adults away. Puzzles tries to muscle in to the already only skin and bones of the carcass and still the very well fed pups keep her away. Eventually she makes off with a few scraps. But most importantly the pups are well fed.

The Nellkins and Heart explore their new home - an exercise pen. The pen is divided into eating, sleeping and elimination areas. Surprisingly, the puppies seem to almost immediately get the hang of it - they don't poop in their sleeping areas, although we do find the occasional pee there. Next week, we'll add a small crate to the pen which they can go in and out of. I also have a kitten sized play tunnel to add to the pen. We'll be adding extra panels to it to give them more room to navigate their new home.

The wild dog pack had killed a sub-adult male impala this morning. All that now remained was skin and bone. The pups lay around for ages gnawing on the remains. But for some reason there was a continuous demand to own one of the impala s legs. And the pups kept stealing them from each other, even though there were 4 of them.

Now that the wild dog pups aren't in a den anymore, they've got the whole wide world to explore and what could be more interesting than a pile of elephant poo. Digging around and tasting it, they just keep coming back for more although it's obvioulsy not to their liking. But when a hyaena calls nearby, they decide it's safer to follow after mom.

The pups didn t really care for the hyaena calling in the valley and continued to play. Then mom arrived but she had nothing to offer. She was snappy towards them. She came back to the den several times and the pups kept their distance not being sure how to handle her.
