Further, associated bodies must be brought forward along with my body - the "others", not merely as my congeners, as the zoologist says, but the others who haunt me and whom I haunt; the "others" along with whom I haunt a single, present, and actual Being as no animal ever haunted those beings of his own species, locale, or habitat. " Moving about in the world's first garden suburbia, Sam Renseiw reflects on the phenomenology of stability as exemplified in a particular house while further moving along graded interiors. Occasionally legs and feet emerge in front of the camera as do overhead voices on the soundtrack but these are not voodles about people but about the resonance of space. Building day after day these two to three minute works create a library or repository of images from which the viewer can draw or withdraw. There is a willful denial of narrative progression and the audience is called upon to realize that they are re-tracing their own steps; going back to the same familiar passage. Forced to confront everything again till eventually seeing it all for the first time. " Just returned from a trip to London, Sam Renseiw, overwhelmed by recorded footage, is busy editing the coming patafilms; Exhausted by the recent first public outing at a renown research centre and followed by an encore by his alter-ego, Sam hopes to maintain the future qualitative output of patamatic cinema. Herein is an aura of immanence, of engagement with something in the process of happening. Fragments of collums fluting or stretching room-forms are in the process of transmuting towards growth or decay... The main room resembles something of the traditional multipurpose "tupa" space, with an open fire, and with the addition of a small loft studio, nestling between the apex of the roof. At the meeting of the two wings there is a small kitchen. The modest bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed by a cloister-like corridor which faces the courtyard, being either pierced by the sun through its doors and windows, or shuttered tight against the cold..." Apparently taking a scrutinising, moving approach (in)to a memorable piece of Nordic architecture, Sam Renseiw stretches the limits of testing body-space morphologies in the apparent maze of the simple corridor. click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for iPod/iPhone / direct streaming for PC " Were I ten centuries old, could I remember more?/A weighty chest of drawers, crammed with a random store/Of voodles , writs, songs, balance sheets,/And heavy skeins of hair rolled up in old receipts,
/Hides fewer secrets, surely, than my sorry brain,/A pyramid and vault, whose corridors contain/More corpses than the potter's field, or late or soon./A graveyard, I, abominated by the moon,/Where, like a viscous worm, remorse thrusts out his head/To strike forever at my most beloved dead./I am an ancient Voodle filled with faded roses/In which a ruck of long-outmoded gowns reposes,/Where pastels all too sad and Bouchers all too pale/Alone breathe in the scents that uncorked flasks exhale./Nothing can be so long as days, limping and drear,/Under the heavy flakes of year on snowy year,/When ennui, fruit of dismal incuriosity,/Assumes the fearful scope of immortality..." All those voodle morsels slowly pile up, moans Sam Renseiw, depressed, realising the agony of quasi-perpetual remembrance... All a grand illusion, somehow - futile, senseless and cluttered: a warehouse of forgetful movables, without any (more) comments; Take a walk through the ordered scatter by clicking here or on the links above. We try all ways that can lead us to it; where reason is wanting, we therein employ experience, which is a means much more weak and cheap; but truth is so great a thing that we ought not to disdain any mediation that will guide us to it. Reason has so many forms that we know not to which to take; experience has no fewer; the consequence we would draw from the comparison of events is unsure, by reason they are always unlike. There is no quality so universal in this image of things as diversity and variety." While still dabbling with both crude editing software and of-the-shelf camcorder, Sam Renseiw refines the interior-walk-through voodle genre, amidst a fine, utterly ambiguous flock of furniture apparitions - with strong living room reminiscences.
