This was a very different event from the usual ones I attend, animals were the centre of attention. The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys in Manchester needs funds and while the event was about raising money, it was also about having lots of fun. In fact I enjoyed it so much I forgot about why I was there, missed most things because I was either with the donkeys or the ferrets. The weather tried to play it's part and spoil the party, but with so much going on that was impossible. It was a well attended event and well organized, the staff obviously had worked very hard putting on such a good show. There was so much going on in such a small space that I can only list what I able to see, sorry if anyone got missed. I did miss the Lord Mayor of Manchester opening the event, I was in with Barn Owl Bill somewhere else at the time, time just passed me by.All I can say is if you missed it this time, make sure you visit the website for next years event, you won't be dissapointed if you love animals. What did you miss, well there was of course the Donkeys, Pottery in the Park (Clay bowl making and figure painting), Dr Butler's Hatstand Medicine Band, Retired Greyhound Trust, Gorton Local History Group, Boxer Dog Rescue, Barn Owl Bill and Birds of Prey, RSPCA (Manchester & Salford Branch), Dookies Ferret Rescue (here you could hug a ferret), Tellington Touch, Northwich Guinea Pig and Rabbit Rescue, Cats Protection, Mary and Arnold's Donkey Goodies Stall, Fun Dog Show, Have a Go Fun Dog Agility Course, Reflexologyas well as Punch and Judy, Children's Fun Bus, Children's Amusement Rides, Bouncy Castles and Slides, Go Karts, Magician, Donkey Rides, Face Painting, tombola, bric a brac, jewellery, Clothes, cakes, cards, books, plants, crafts and much more. The live band at the event brought something a little different from what I am used too, but I have to say it was entertaining and definitely some toe tapping tunes were played.Bet your sorry you missed it now, however you can enjoy the few highlights from the event I have put together in this video.

Making Black Pottery

Making Black Pottery

from Favorites of tinhkhoipottery on November 27, 2006
Duration: 71
Black pottery gets the smooth ebony finish from its special firing process. The fuel is mixed with pigment; and the clay absorbs the color from the smoke during the firing. Traditionally, all the engravings are carved before the firing. Our artisans have also invented a new method that engraves designs on the surface after the item is fired. The color gets lighter as the artist etches deeper. So the final coloring has levels of yellow and gray, as well as black. Black pottery originated during the Neolithic period (12,000 B.C.) in China; and this method was perfected by the Long Shan Culture (3000 B.C.) The earliest works of Black Pottery are water pots and vessels of ancient worship. Then it became the house-hold wares for daily life of the royal families.
