Curiously Frustrated: Video
from Wildcast - African bush adventures live-blogged to a screen near you July 24, 2008
This morning the hyaena den produced a new hyaena but no sign of the others. This youngster, about 18months old strolled up to the back of my car and proceeded to chew on it. Not on the rubber tyres but on the metal handle! They sure love eating cars. Wanting to get some better photos of the youngster I got out the car. He ran off but was immediately back to investigate. Instinct told him to run but he just couldn’t resist coming to check me out. He would come up close, scare himself, run off and then come right back again. This went on for about half an hour. Eventually we both got bored of each other and he moved off. He was walking away in the dense mopanie when I suddenly saw he take off like lightening. What could be chasing him, a lion? No, it was a mother warthog with her 2 little piglets. And so the game started. The hyaena would saunter back towards the warthog and the mother would chase him off. This must have gone on at least 20 minutes. I could only just see glimpses through the mopanie and was frustrated as it was pointless me even trying to film anything. When the hyaena finally gave up on the warthogs, I left. Walking up to the wild dog den, crunching every leaf I could find, I got there with no sign of the adults or pups. I was standing close to the den when the adults suddenly barked. They must have smelt me. It was then only that I saw the pups. They were on top of the den and came careering round the front only to find me a few meters away. It didn’t stop them as they bolted underground. But 2 of them battled to squeeze through the hole. It’s actually quite worrying ‘cos the pups are quite big now and getting in and out the den is a problem. And even more of a problem getting out. I just hope they don’t get stuck in there. No doubt they’ll soon move again. At least I got to see the little guys. They seemed well. I wasn’t able to get a head count but there seemed to be enough of them. With both those bases covered, wild dogs and hyaenas, I went drifting around the reserve for a few hours before heading back to camp to work on my vehicle. It’s been taking quite a bashing and I haven’t worked on it for ages. It’s probably going to keep me busy a few days yet. Banyini was pretty active this afternoon with lots of plains game scattered around. And then at sunset I took my chance on the elephants. There was a small family herd drinking at Simbiri dam. This time I caught them just as the sun set. Still not the best time but at least I was able to film something!

Mortgage Payments and Stated Income Loans - July 24, 2008
from Mortgages Made Simple with Rick Gundzik July 24, 2008
Will the Housing relief bill help? This week we answer a listener's question whether or not the new housing bill will help him. We also had another listener ask us why he just can't seem to get a loan to buy a house. He has perfect credit, makes good money, and is putting in a big down payment. But he is self employed and his income is seasonal, high in the summer and low in the winter. He is a perfect candidate for a stated income loan. However, those loans do not exist anymore. Listen to "Mortgage Payments and Stated Income Loans" If you have any questions you would like us to answer on our show, please call our listener line at 714-519-7833 or email mortgagepodcast@gmail.com. Crisis Communication - Before, During and After It Hits The Fan
from Small Business Trends Radio | Small Business Information July 23, 2008
When a business is facing a crisis and has to answer to the media, there is little time to react effectively. The stress created by a crisis often limits rational thinking and can lead to costly mistakes and missteps. This is why it is essential for both large and small businesses to have a crisis management plan in place. Minimizing the damage from a crisis can prevent an unfortunate incident from blowing up into a full-scale public relations nightmare. Glenn Ebersole, Chief Executive of the Renaissance Group, is our featured guest in this Episode of The Small Business Trends Radio. Glenn will share examples of successful responses and unsuccessful responses to crisis when dealing with the media. Here s a sampling from the show: Some common public relations errors that many businesses make when faced with a crisis are 1.) to not have a crisis management plan in place 2.) to not be easily accesible 3.) to fail to provide information that s easily accesible to the media and 4.) to not maintain ongoing positive relationships with reporters, editors and target media. When developing a crisis management plan be sure to select and organize a crisis management team consisting of a spokesperson, legal counsel, someone with financial and operational background and possibly outside PR counsel that are available to respond immediately. When a crisis happens, you need to know who to contact first. What can a small business do to develop relationships with the media? For starters, you can develop a media kit including a one page description of your company and a contact listed. Connect with local reporters and read what they write, send them news and press releases, send them additional pieces of interest relating to topics they ve written about previously and attend events where your local media may be present. Following the suggestions above to develop healthy relations with the media will build credibility around you and your business and, in a sense, gives you third party endorsement. Being proactive and building a positive image with them will go a long way in the midst of a crisis for a positive public relations experience. Do you have a crisis management plan in place? You can learn more by listening to Glenn s full interview by clicking the red and yellow player below. Brought to you by our sponsors: JumpUp.com and Infusionsoft.com

Xacti HD1000 Green MP4 Fix
from Ryanne's Video Blog July 23, 2008
Do you use a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camera? Have you seen the green mp4 of death? Not sure why? Well, my friend Mary Matthews of Videopancakes.com also had this problem recently and she pointed me to this Apple discussion thread to help her decipher the solution. Seems that the QuickTime H264 component that came with your Xacti software worked great with your camera, but then again QuickTime gets updated by Apple every few months and that little bit of software that makes your HD files actually work gets replaced. Huge bummer if you want to, oh um, use your footage. I sat down with Mary and helped her reinstate this little component and I thought I'd make a screencast walking through it so others could fix their systems too. There are some other solutions on that Apple thread if this doesn't work, but I hope it does. Good Luck! p.s. if you right click and save this video... you can watch it at 640x480, a bit easier to see.

Archive - Blindsided - June 17, 2005
from Career Opportunities July 23, 2008
(This podcast is pulled from the archives and presented here as a service to more recent listeners Douglas) Listen to this episode Read the entire article Most high-tech jobs follow a similar pattern you work, you complete projects, you work some more and at the end of the year you get your performance review. That’s when you find out how you did and what your managers feel you need to do better. Repeat each year until you retire. I realize, of course, that this is fantasy. Many of us suffer from micro-management on a daily, if not hourly, basis, while others may never get much feedback at all. Instead, we try to judge our performance based on the often confusing comments we receive as we pass our managers in the hallway. As you might imagine, the passing comments we receive might have little to do with the true perception of our performance. In fact, it can often leave us feeling blindsided by bad news when a formal review does occur.
