Effects of Radiation: Cell Biology & Cancer Research (1952)
from Revver - medical Videos August 01, 2008
Author: QIP1 Added: Thu, 31 Jul 2008 22:53:06 -0800 Duration: 55This 1952 Encyclopedia Britannica film gives an interesting overview of the kind of tests scientists of plant cell biology conducted at that time regarding radiations effect on plant and animal biology. This was during the birth of nuclear science, and so of course all the possible applications were being explored, sometimes with experiments that today are considered horrible. The tests themselves are explained and the radiation safety measures protecting the experimenters is touched upon as well. The effects of exposure to radiation are the chief topics for discussion. Antiquated footage of researchers handling nuclear charged rods and infusing corn with nuclear radiation are not to be missed! The positive applications of radiation are also explored, mainly in the area of cancer research. Medical radiation therapy was one of the chief areas of research that the government was promoting in order to make nuclear power and energy seem more benevolent than atomic bombs. Cancer ...

Ironic WWII Marijuana Promotion Film: Hemp For Victory!
from Revver - american Videos July 30, 2008
Author: QIP1 Added: Wed, 30 Jul 2008 12:33:37 -0800 Duration: 32Hemp for Victory is an ironic film made by the US government that promotes the growing of hemp, which is now mainly used as the well known illegal drug marijuana. This technically detailed film encourages farmers to grow hemp during the WWII war effort. With the military facing a hemp shortage due to foreign suppliers being controlled or blocked by enemy forces, America needed farmers to step up and start producing a product necessary for the rope, rigging, cloth, and other products that the Army, Airforce, and Navy needed for operations. A very detailed description of how and where to grow hemp follows, including descriptions of how to seed, harvest, and ret the hemp. Hemp processing is also explored in interesting detail. There is a subtle reference to hemps relationship to cannabis by the narrator, For to grow hemp legally you must have a federal registration and tax stamp. This is provided in your contract. Ask your county agent about it. Dont forget.

However, from tragedy to triumph Roche said it will grow its research and development operations in the east coast. James Hughs, Dean of Rutgers Universitys Edward Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, says that Roches relocation decision is driven primarily by its plan to take full control of Genentech.
