Kym Rayner winemkaker at Torlesse Wines in Waipara New Zealand talks a bit about this region as a tourist center and now a world class region for fine wine. All within one hour of the international airport in Christchurch. The long, narrow Waipara Valley provides the ideal climate for premium winegrowing. Its steep, surrounding hillsides trap the sun and funnel the warming northwest winds flowing down from New Zealand?s Southern Alps. Torlesse is the name given to the underlying bedrock of the country, and it is truly the terroir of New Zealand!

The Rayner Vineyard is one of several estate vineyards that produce grapes for Torlesse Wines in Waipara New Zealand. This is one of the oldest vineyards in the region and produces pinot noir, riesling and sauvignon blanc grapes.
