As Remembrance Day approaches here in Canada, Christopher looks at The World Orchestra for Peace in a programme that first aired on CBC Radio in 2003. "The World Orchestra for Peace is an expression of harmony on all levels. It was founded in 1995 by Sir Georg Solti to reaffirm, in his words, 'the unique strength of music as an ambassador for peace'. Its players come from orchestras all over the world, many of them concert masters and section leaders in their own right, and the orchestra has no existence outside the very special occasions that call it into being."

This Channel features some animation pieces from the forthcoming Classical Children's Series produced by fourteen-time Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone and his friends. Featured thus far in the series are world-renowned pianist Marc Neikrug and two-time Grammy-winning Violinist Pinchas Zukerman. We hope that you and your children enjoy the pieces and would love to hear your feedback. Look for a full-length DVD and accompanying CDs in early 2008. Classic Kid is a classical music series for children and is the brainchild of fourteen-time Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone and world-renowned composer Marc Neikrug. Classic Kid utilizes composers who are pillars of the classical community whose work is instantly recognizable as some of the greatest works of music the world over. Mr. Neikrug purposely choose pieces that were either written especially for children like Elgar's "Six Easy Pieces" and Shumann's "Fairy Tale", or pieces that had natural momentum to them that would be engaging to young minds. Compelling, yet simple animation is being developed to accompany the music. The animation is character driven so that children will relate to the visuals on the screen. We envision developing this into a series of CDs, all accompanied by an animated compoinants. An integral part of the project is to have identifiable characters that will grow and evolve to mirror a child's own growth as they explore the Classic Kid. The goal of Classic Kid is to evolve from a soloist on a piano and a single violin/viola accompanied by a piano, as the first two CDs do, into complete orchestras mining the treasure trove of classical works.
