Summer: 4 - Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus
from London Landscape TV (HD 720p) August 10, 2007
As our Summer In The City journey continues, we take one last look at the busy Oxford Circus before heading south down Regent Street. We pass several well-known stores (including the fabulous new Apple store - a must-visit for all Apple computer / iPod / Apple TV / iPhone fans!). Its great seeing all the people in Regent Street milling around, window-shopping; some laden with bags, some noticing the camera and trying to seek attention! All too soon we are at Piccadilly Circus, famous for its Statue of Eros and also the great advert hoardings, most now digital movie screens which the camera lingers to watch for a while. Just as we turn back for one last look at Eros, I suffer sudden battery failure! The camera tries a couple of time to capture more footage but in vain as video of Piccadilly Circus is replaced dramatically with a TV test card! Ok... a bit of artistic licence to advertise the launch of the forthcoming HD 1080 service but I did actually suffer sudden battery failure which explains the very short episode this week and the drop in pictures at the end of this episode. Yes HD video picture lovers, message received: its back to the original Sony lens and that tripod-based 'locked-off and look' from next week...!

Piccadilly Circus
from Travel and Vacations February 02, 2007
Piccadilly Circus is sort of like London's version of New York's Time Square but on a smaller level. Its just a shot of the shops and the traffic going by. I shot this the first day I was in England.

Mayfair
from Free London Walks for your Ipod or MP3 Player October 04, 2006
Mayfair, London's most expensive area. This is a walk from Piccadilly Circus (Bakerloo and Piccadilly Lines, Zone 1). We start by walking along Piccadilly to Burlington House, home of the Royal Academy of Arts famous for its Summer Exhibition, exhibitions, events and library. Two beautiful Georgian arcades of shops follow, including Royal Arcade, so named because Queen Victoria bought her riding skirts from an outlet there. Shepherd Market is a lovely neighbourhood full of small restaurants, wine bars and pubs. In Berkeley Square, the noise of the traffic drowns out any thought of hearing the celebrated nightingales, but the sight of 200 year old plane trees, and people sitting outside enjoying the Autumn sunshine are consolations. Farm Street church is the UK HQ of the Jesuits, and we walk through its church yard. Thence to Grosvenor Square, dominated nowadays by the American Embassy. Just North of the Square is the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, where we turn and pass down South Molton Street where we can see the Arms of the Corporation of London dating from the 1620's. Savile Row is the place to buy bespoke tailoring for men, but nearby in the Royal Institution Michael Faraday conducted his early experiments with electricity. The walk then returns to Piccadilly where we enter the church of St James's, with it's large decorated interior and weekday antiques market. Help us by sending us a contribution to our costs! This is a free service which many commercial companies charge to provide, and it costs money both in bandwidth and travel costs. A small donation using the PayPal button would be appreciated. On request, those giving $25 or more will receive a disk containing all the walks so far, including any that are unpublished at the time. Please ensure you provide your correct mailing address. I will send the disk post free to any part of the world. My thanks to those who have made donations.
