Countdown - Juiced
from Where's the Outrage? December 14, 2007
Remember how Jose Canseco was thought of as a nut case. He was lying. He was trying to get press for his book. Now, he is a damn honest man. The Mitchell Report if it did anything it elevated Jose Canseco to the level of honest man, no not saint but Honest Joe, who got his nose dirty in major league baseball. This is a lot better than rat fink liar. Look this is really easy. 40 year old men do not run faster, jump higher or throw harder than 25 year old men. That s simply a fact. Baseball fans, think back. Who got better late into their career? Also, steroids impede healing. Who got hurt all of the time? I m 47 years old. I m out of shape. If I run, bike, lift weights and eat perfectly with the right balance of proteins, calories and fats, I could lose most of the fat and gain 15 - 20 pounds of muscle. I can t gain 40 -50 lbs of muscle. Look at Barry Bonds. Look at Mark McGuire. Look at Sammy Sosa. These guys put on tons of muscle late in their careers. Update: In the middle of all of this, Alex Rodriguez who has tanked in very playoff game that I can think of, just penned a 10 year - $275 million deal. He is playing a game isn t he? He isn t curing cancer or removing a busted spleen to save someone s life, is he? This is so retarded I don t know where to start. From WaPo: On the night of Oct. 26, 2000, the New York Yankees enjoyed the last moment of a dynasty that defined the 20th century in baseball. Their big-game left-hander from Louisiana, Andy Pettitte, threw seven stellar innings against the New York Mets. They turned to their left-handed specialist, Mike Stanton, to work a perfect eighth inning. When they scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, Stanton was credited with the win in Game 5 of the World Series, granting the storied franchise the most recent of its 26 championships. In the celebratory pile at Shea Stadium, however, were an inordinate number of players whose names appeared in the report of former Senate majority leader George J. Mitchell on the prevalence of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. (more ) andy pettitte, countdown, jose canseco, major league baseball, mark mcguire, mike stanton, new york mets, new york yankees, performance enhancing drugs, sammy sosa, senate majority leader, sports

Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports The Washington State Ferry Crisis
from KUOW's The Conversation December 13, 2007
New York Yankees pitchers Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite are accused of steroid use today. After twenty months of investigation a team led by former Senator George Mitchell found evidence that 50 major league players used performance enhancing drugs. Mitchell's report is highly critical of baseball commissioner Bud Selig, who hired Mitchell to do the report. Will the report force baseball to clean up its act? What impact is steroid use in professional sports having on college and high school athletes? Also today, Governor Gregoire announces a fix for the ferry crisis. The state transportation department pulled car ferries between Whidbey Island and Port Townsend out of service because they were decrepit. We'll hear what the governor said, along with Washington Secretary of Transportation Paula Hammond and Port Townsend Mayor Mark Welch.
