Instead of the usual afternoon showers, this rainy season came with hourlong rainstorms at night. Traffic collapsed and most roads were flooded - but rain means also life! Life for the farmers and their bonedry fields in the countryside. Rain usually never exceeds 30 or 40 minutes, but this one kept pouring for several hoers, see for Yourself. Having driven around the entire Gulfcoast from southern Malaysia to the vietnamese border at the cambodian gulfshore, the traffic in Phnom Penh was by far the hardest obstacle to master. I still did enjoy all of it and am glad to have survived it without a dent or scratch. The daredevil clinging to the rooftop-load in the back of the van that I'm passing in this flick must be totally fearless. These vans don't stop for hours, they are the Cambodian equivalent of Greyhound busses. Maybe he sneaked on for a free ride. Additional passengers on top of cabin! The last of the formerly 4 rivercrossings that had to be negotiated by ferry previously. It is located near the community of Sre Ambel which has a vivid Kher Rouge history and had been a notorious hangout for pirates and warmongers in the past. Crossing now takes under half a minute, not so bad compared to the hourlong processing by makeshift ferries. Phnom Penh Om iets te begrijpen van de verschrikkingen tijdens het Khmer Rouge bewind, moet je een bezoek brengen aan het Tuol Sleng-museum. Oorspronkelijk was dit een middelbare school, maar de Rode Khmer maakte er een gevangenis en martelcentrum van. Het had als codenaam S-21. De galerijen zijn versperd met prikkeldraad om te voorkomen dat wanhopige gevangenen zelfmoord zouden plegen door naar beneden te springen.
