The programme is written by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, with additional material by Mitchell and Webb themselves. It has been broadcast on Channel 4 since 2003, and the fifth series aired in 2008. A sixth series has been commissioned. Synopsis Peep Show follows the often sexually-frustrated lives of two men in their late twenties, Mark (Mitchell) and Jeremy (Webb). Having met while at the fictional Dartmouth University together (they occasionally refer to themselves as 'The El Dude Brothers' in reference to their student days), they now share a flat on London Road in Croydon, south London. Mark is a loan manager and the more financially successful of the two, but is extremely uncomfortable socially and pessimistic about nearly everything. Jeremy, who at the start of the first series has recently split up with his girlfriend 'Big Suze', now rents Mark's spare room. He usually has a much more optimistic and energetic outlook on the world than Mark, yet his self-proclaimed talent as a musician is yet to be recognised, and he is not as socially popular or sexually attractive as he would like to think. Series five Series 5 was commissioned in March 2007, prior to the broadcast of series 4, largely due to the impressive DVD sales of the first three series, and began airing on May 2, 2008. Following Mark and Sophie's disastrous wedding, the pair return to work, and Mark attempts to shake off the bad publicity surrounding him. After Sophie smashes his mug, Mark gains Johnson's support in the matter, who instructs Sophie to take time off to stay with her parents. With Sophie out of the way, Mark begins his quest for "the one". He asks out the new IT girl Dobby to a club where Jeremy and Super Hans are performing, although the date ends badly when they find a dishevelled Sophie in the toilets, who reveals to Dobby that she is Mark's wife. Jeremy runs out of the money his mother had given him, on which he has been living, and Mark attempts to replace him with Saz, a rowdy Australian woman he met while speed dating who pretends to like him for a place to live. Jeremy asks Big Suze if he can stay with her, and while at her house, steals Johnson's credit card and ends up going on a shopping spree. Dobby asks Mark if he wants her to be his date for his upcoming birthday party, but having already asked Saz, he turns her down. At the party, Johnson catches Jeremy red handed, Mark offers to pay to avoid Johnson calling the police, while Saz ends up ignoring Mark and dancing with Jeff. Jeremy's great-aunt dies, but his mother refuses to give him any of the inheritance; meanwhile, Mark's ambitions to write the military biography of Jez's mother's boyfriend are scotched. Mark is promoted to senior Credit Manager by Johnson and is ordered to fire Sophie due to her faltering performance. She announces that she is pregnant after having a one night stand with Mark during which "Old Meg" (his aging emergency bachelor condom) bursts. Mark is unable to fire Sophie and instead tries to fire Gerard, however he threatens legal action and Mark rescinds. Meanwhile Jeremy joins a cult after suffering from guilt after also sleeping with Sophie, eventually Sophie tells Jez that he is probably the father and leaves him to tell Mark who is both angry yet relieved. He then discovers that the condom he used has ripped. Later, when Mark is meant to be firing Sophie, she tells him that she is pregnant. This results in him leaving Dobby. Jez is about to leave for a compound as part of his faith, but then learns that he could be the father of Sophie's child.
