Jay Roach's Dinner for Schmucks is adding another seat at the table for Ron Livingston; the movie also stars funny guys Zach Galifianakis, Steve Carell, and Paul Rudd. Dinner is based on the famous French movie directed and written by Francis Veber, Le d ner de cons, otherwise known as The Dinner Game, which won a C sar for best writing. Dinner is the story of a dining group with a rather interesting twist; they have a contest to see who can bring the biggest idiot to dinner. Soon enough, though, the guests realize their little snarky game isn't so harmless. The question is, who will be the biggest schmuck? Carell and Rudd star, and either could be schmucky, although Carell can play dumb with a straight face pretty damn well. (He loves lamp, after all.) However, I can't picture Zach Galifianakis as a bougie dinner party guest and not a schmuck. Maybe he's a more minor schmuck? Ross is so excited to deliver a keynote address at a paleontologists convention on Barbados that he procures free passes to the event for all his friends. On the island, Joey is amazed that Ross is the one being recognized by fans instead of him, but at least Joey is still dating gorgeous paleontologist Charlie (recurring guest star AISHA TYLER), to Ross' chagrin. Having recently ended her relationship with Mike (recurring guest star PAUL RUDD), Phoebe brings her former boyfriend, David (recurring guest star HANK AZARIA), to the island.In Part I, when Chandler accidentally erases the only version of Ross' speech from his laptop computer, Charlie must help Ross reconstruct it--and in the process, they discover that they have much more in common than their profession. Meanwhile, Joey and Rachel get drunk together after impersonating pharmacists and infiltrating a medical conference for the free drinks. And Phoebe is shocked when Mike unexpectedly travels to the island to talk to her.In Part II, despite the fact that it is the first sunny day since their arrival, everyone attends Ross' speech, which is enthusiastically received by his adoring fellow scientists. Six friends frequently gather at one another's apartments and share sofa space at Greenwich Village's Central Perk coffeehouse in New York City. Monica Geller Bing (series star COURTENEY COX ARQUETTE) is a chef with an obsession for neatness and order in her life. She is married to Chandler Bing (series star MATTHEW PERRY), a dry wit who is never at a loss for words. Across the hall are Chandler's former longtime roommate, Joey Tribbiani (series star MATT LeBLANC), a womanizing actor currently on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, and Rachel Green (series star JENNIFER ANISTON), Monica's best friend from high school.Across the alley from Monica and Chandler lives Monica's hapless brother Ross Geller (series star DAVID SCHWIMMER), a paleontology professor who has been divorced three times, including once from Rachel. Although Rachel is no longer romantically involved with Ross, they share the responsibility of raising their newborn daughter, Emma. Rounding out the circle of friends is Monica's ex-roommate, Phoebe Buffay (series star LISA KUDROW), an offbeat, eternally optimistic folk singer and massage therapist.Still in Barbados after Ross' keynote address, the friends cope with a variety of dilemmas. Joey and Rachel have kissed as well, but they agonize over how to tell Ross. And Monica has developed really big hair, due to the humidity. Chandler's problem is that he can barely restrain himself from making fun of his wife.Phoebe, Monica and Chandler learn about all the romantic drama by listening through the thin hotel room walls to hear Joey and Rachel's amorous conversation on one side and Ross and Charlie's on the other. Feeling as if he is betraying Joey, Ross seeks him out to confess that he wants to date Charlie. Likewise, Joey wants to admit to Ross his feelings for Rachel. After several tries, Ross tells Joey, but Joey fails to reciprocate. Meanwhile, Monica gets her hair done in a local salon and is thrilled to sport cornrows adorned with beads and shells. Chandler and the others are even more mortified than before. Monica insists on keeping the hairstyle--until her elaborate hair gets tangled in the shower curtain.Back in New York, Phoebe is forced to tell Mike's girlfriend the bad news--on the unfortunate woman's birthday.
