Speculation is flying over why Boeing is buying a major aircraft production facility in South Carolina. On Tuesday, the company announced it would purchase the plant from Vought Airplane Industries for $580 million. The plant makes the rear fuselage section of the 787 Dreamliner. Vought is a longtime supplier of parts to Boeing, but has had a difficult time performing on the 787 program.

Reporters got their first up close view on Monday of Boeing's newest airplane, the 787 Dreamliner. The 787 production line has been under wraps for months, as the company has struggled to resolve a host of problems. Boeing officials now say they are making progress in working out the kinks.
