from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos May 13, 2008
life recording, the venice breakwater on april 20, 2008 from svanes on Vimeo. at first glance, little appears to be happening during this typical day at the beach. however, look carefully at the waves as the sets increase in size. check out the many surfers (and some of the spectacular wipe-outs) in this five minute video, as well as the wide variety of wanderers and strollers (and their occasionally bizarre choice of wardrobe). there's an outrigger canoe regatta in the background, and, of course, the soothing sounds of the surf as it reaches the shore. Beach Walk 598 - Come Join with Me
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) February 29, 2008
I cannot stop watching this episode! It was shot by moi, on the little Sanyo Xacti, there are water drops on the lens, it is a little over-exposed and a lot shakey, and of course I wanted more shots. But there was magic on the beach this day. Then I heard this beautiful song on Dave's Lounge #106 and I had to put these ingredients together. Sometimes the energy is so much more than the technique - this is true for me, today. This episode is dedicated to each of you loyal viewers, who so generously receive whatever we share, who shower us with love and affection, who even travel all the way from Canada (and soon from the UK I hope) and share some of your precious vacation time with us.I don't know how to thank the Shanghai Restoration Project featuring Di Johnston for this beautiful song. I already purchased two copies of the album on iTunes. I hope you will purchase their music to encourage more of this in our world. As for Dave, I have listened to his podcast from the first episode, and he stands in rare company to have been so focused from the start, and he only gets better. Studio of the Sea
from Earth Focus May 06, 2007
This installment of Earth Focus provides a special look into Studio of the Sea, a group of biologists equipped with camera equipment that are studying the underwater effects of global warming on coral reefs in Phoenix Island, a sparsely populated chain of atolls in the Pacific Ocean. Their footage provides insight into the delicate balance of underwater ecosystems, as well as the devastating effects of even the slightest temperature changes on the health, size and vibrancy of the "rainforests of the sea."nThe Planetary Coral Reef Foundation's crew has been working off the research vessel, the RV Heraclitus, for more than 12 years, which is the only ship continually at sea studying coral reefs on a planetary basis. According to PCRF's findings, two-thirds of the world's coral reefs and their ecosystems are at risk for devastation due to climate change, pollution and other harmful underwater trends.nOther segments in this Earth Focus broadcast include: a look at the dangers facing wild horses in Palomino Valley, California; a report on a growing number of commercial bottle water companies, such as Ethos and Belu, that donate a portion or all of their proceeds from sales to global causes; and a startling exposé on annual seal hunting in Canada and a resulting boycott against Darden Restaurants, the multi-billion-dollar company that owns Red Lobster, and the entire Canadian seafood industry.

mock-up showreel #1
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 27, 2007
getting my showreel together, though this one is just a test, a mock-up, to see how certain things fit together... editing and assembling a showreel is time consuming and hard work... feel free to comment. Cast: svanes

from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 25, 2007
our friend, billy mark, was one of many acts performing yesterday at crane's tavern, to raise money for "say yes" - part of the central city community outreach for homeless children who live in l.a.'s skid row. we went to support him and check out the show... he really has a great voice... for more info on the say yes program, check out: http://www.lacentralcity.org/pages/SAYyesoverview.html Cast: svanes

the corrupted kitchen (part one)
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 22, 2007
offering no pretensions abouts culinary authenticity, this very unserious video of a cooking fiasco is ultimately a failure in itself - and i'm posting it as a reminder for myself to develop this idea and make it better. making a cooking video is hard - and while i attempted to make a mock cooking episode with its central theme as failure - my sense of restraint is a detriment to this little project. the failures in the video are too small. it would have been much funnier if there had been a stronger emotional response and if there had been a genuine kitchen catastrophe. still, there are some amusing details here, and... well, i'll leave it at that. the last thing the world needs is a culinary innovator... this video was created on the fly one evening while i was waiting for my wife, who was working late. i decided to surprise her by baking a cake (something i never do), and then i decided to make a video of this process - a video that evolved into an idea of white trash cooking as an inadvertant by-product of scandinavian cuisine, which then further developed into an idea of how fun it would be to make a cooking show based on failure, betrayal and fiasco. i still want to develop that idea. this video is almost eight minutes long... yeesh. it moves sort of quickly... you'll see. ADDITIONAL NOTE ADDED MAY 1, 2007: i've wanted to take this video down now, but out of respect for the people who've commented on it, i'm leaving it up - but my intention upon visiting this page today was to delete the file... but the film has received a stay of execution... downtown los angeles (a night at billy's coffee shop)
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 19, 2007
a walk at night in downtown los angeles unveils a very cool underground art scene that reminded me of berlin, with footage of a live concert and video installation. what started out as an evening with very modest expectations turned out to be very pleasant and inspiring. this clip is fairly long and more a loosely edited documentary.
