ALDE MEP Sophie IN'T VELD, together with ALDE advisor Ottavio MARZOCCHI, took part in the 2008 Gay Pride events in Riga, capital of Latvia, from the 30th of May to the 1st of June 2008. The ALDE Delegation participated in the "Friendship Days" organized by the local LGBT organization Mozaika, in the framework of the ALDE campaign for LGBT rights, "ALDE 4 Equality". http://www.alde.eu/index.php?id=42&no_cache=1&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=9585

At the Hearing on Rare Diseases organised at the European Parliament, co-hosted by Fr d rique Ries and Jules Maaten, together with the European Organisation for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS), an overview will be given of the initiatives and activities taken in different Member States of the EU to commemorate the Rare Disease Day. Furthermore, the European Commission launched a Public Consultation on the Commission Communication on Rare Diseases in December 2007. The deadline to contribute to this exercise is 14 February 2008. At the Public Hearing, participants will have a preliminary feedback on the results of the consultation and an overview of the main challenges and priorities of the Rare Diseases Community in Europe. ALDE CALD meeting (Council of Asian Liberal Democrats)(+ALDEPAC Delegation) Event date: 16/04/08 10:30 to 18:00 Location: Room 3G3 in the morning session and room PHS 7C050 in the afternoon, European Parliament, Brussels The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) held their first Annual ALDE CALD meeting in 2002, with the aim to strengthen cooperation with Asian Liberal Democrats, much needed in a society which needs a globalised answer. This year the 2008 Annual ALDE CALD meting will take place in the European Parliament in Brussels on the 16 April and for the first time will be joined by a delegation of Liberals and Democrats from the African Caribbean and Pacific (ALDEPAC).
