In today's video Dr. Cerullo provides an introduction to pituitary tumors. He describes where they're located and the challenges that result from their proximity to the optic nerve and carotid artery. He also educates us on the various classifications of pituitary tumors based upon size and whether or not the tumor is secreting or non-secreting. Symptoms related to pituitary tumors can also be varied and complex - Dr. Cerullo provides a general outline of the most common of these symptoms.

Today Dr. Cerullo discusses a type of treatment for brain tumors called stereotactic radiosurgery. He discusses the differences between stereotactic radiosurgery and conventional or fractionated radiation treatment. He also provides an overview of the advent of stereotactic radiosurgery, the various machines used to deliver the treatment, including the Gamma Knife. Dr. Cerullo describes the manner in which stereotactic radiosurgery spares healthy brain tissue while at the same time delivering a lethal dose of radiation to the target.

Dr. Len Cerullo, neurosurgeon, discusses the diagnostic tools used by neurosurgeons to reveal the size, location and nature of a brain tumor. The various types of imaging studies are discussed in detail, including MRI, CT scan, MR spectroscopy, functional MR. Dr. Cerullo also discusses the use of physiological testing, including visual field testing, brainstem evoked potential testing and somatosensory evoked potential testing.
