Clay sculpture with colored drawings of Fengxiang, Shaanxi, originated from the Western Zhou time prior to the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC), and has been handed down among the people for about 3 thousand years, as one of the oldest kinds of hand-made clay sculpture with the most distinctive national features. According to textual research by experts, the colored drawings are similar to those on the bronze vessels of the Shang and Zhou times, and the imago modeling characterized chiefly by flowers, grass, fish, insects, lucky birds and beasts is a trace of the totemism, reproduction worship and gods adoration of ancient China, reflecting the cultural specificity of the totem epoch. They are finely made through dozens of stages from the creation of the original piece to modeling, molding, fine polishing, drawing, line making, coloring, glazing, etc. Because of their vivid, crude, exaggerative, terse, mighty and lovely modeling, their bright red and bright green tints, their flowing lines, and their romantic and miraculous emblazonry, they are highly regarded and greatly liked by people both home and abroad. They can be used as art treasures or tourist souvenirs characteristic of Shaanxi for presenting to friends and relatives, and can also serve as symbols of luck for keeping away evils, protecting the home and adding happiness to the family. The God Zhongkui According to legend, Zhongkui is a god for driving away ghosts and evil, and keeping peace and health. Rich imagination and romantic techniques have portrayed him as such an image: His head is big, his legs are short; he is straightening his back and bending his waist, showing the posture for killing a demon. The sculpture shows Zhongkuis wit and bravery; he wears the cap of an officer, carries a double-edged sword, showing his supernatural power and majesty to frighten demons. W&S 021 - Ornamental Concrete - Indiana
from Wreck and Salvage - iPod Videos .MOV May 10, 2007
WreckAndSalvage.com? Wreck and Salvage is the moniker for a collective of like-minded artists producing original video content for the internet. We share a love of rust and rotting wood, postcard landscapes and decaying industry, accordians and banjos, knucklehead engines and 4 bangers, lager beer and chilaquiles. Our creative work utilizes original video, stop-motion animation, appropriated video, screencasts, motion graphics, VHS tape, surveillance video, MIDI, animated gifs, and other forms of new and old technology. We publish new episodes twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays on our main page and via RSS subscription. Past episodes are archived, and can also be seen on various hosting sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Metacafe, etc. A full list is of these sites is available by clicking the “Share” section on our main page, or on the sidebar to the right –> Wreck and Salvage currently consists of four different shows. They are America, Your America!, Ornamental Concrete, Suppendapo, and Video Moroso: America, Your America! – (Valdez) Using travel videos of American destinations culled from the internet, Valdez creates a confluence of experiences that is both a celebration and critique of American tourism and our attempts to find significance in places whose meaning has become commodified. Ornamental Concrete – (Quirk) Pollard and his sidekick Billy, both very naked plastic dolls, host a talk show featuring musical performances, interviews with inanimate objects, remote reports, flashbacks, and other freaky shit. Suppendapo – (Quirk & Nelson) Suppendapo is the leading supplier of all your needs for the pending apocalypse. Call 206.338.2903 and place an order today! Telephone orders are recorded by an automated answering service and used as source material for these videos. Video Moroso – (all) We scavenge the scrap yard of the internet for material to melt down and reshape into new work. Our palette consists of boring web video, US Government debriefings, mail-order bride video, instructional video, film trailers, commercials, etc. Caveat Emptor. Â
